I've written some of my own work and I've even gotten it copyrighted.

I originally thought about selling it on my blog. People would pay for a "membership" on my blog and one of the perks would be getting to read the stuff I've written.

But I've heard some people have gotten their start as selling it as an e-book through Amazon.

What do you think I should do?

Please vote in the poll for me (if you don't mind). It was recommended that I do a poll.

Before I respond... what genre is the work?

The reason I ask is because if it's in the short story range, you might consider getting it published in an anthology with others in the genre. It's a good start to get noticed.

Right now they are short stories. I've completed two so far but one is kind of a sequel to the other (don't know if that makes a difference or not). I would consider them on the fence between the horror genre and the thriller/suspense genre. I feel like they could go either way in regards to genre so I'm not sure which one to put them in.

I think, as Katrina mentioned, anthologies or other collections would be the way to go. If you self-publish, either as an ebook or on your blog, then you'll have a lot of work to do with promoting it.

Personally think Amazon is your best bet. It already has a larger audience than you ever can get on your personal website. Although much wider of course but still the odds of selling are larger compared to when you need to do actual promoting yourself.

If you enjoy writing horror, look into joining the Horror Writers Association. They have chapters all over the US and it will help you network with other authors.

Well.....should I submit my writings to a horror magazine? Something like Fangoria? The way that the short stories are written, I can see them being a good one to submit to a horror magazine that they could publish in their magazine and that would gain lots of attention.

Good idea or no?

If your audience is into Fangoria, then definitely try to get in there. You'll have a little more clout when you're published by someone else than do self-publishing through Amazon. Then, when you refer to yourself in subsequent writings, you can refer back to that publication.

I think you should do both, you could add it to your blog as a paid subscription and sell your work on Amazon as well. That way if someone doesn’t want to purchase it on Amazon they have another way of supporting your work.
