So how do you cure your forum from bookworms. I define bookworms as members who log-in and read, read, and read some more (maybe click the like button once in a while). They hardly post replies and offer little or no new topics. Yet the log-in 2 - 3x a day, every day & spend 1 hour or more reading your forum.

So how do you get bookworms to interact with the community more?

Make controversial topics that people are going to have strong opinions on. That is sure to garner some attention.

But really, just continue to add a variety of topics and hopefully something will strike their interest.

I've never had this happen, but I also would keep adding new topics until something sparks their interest... you know, something that they'll want to reply to, that sort of thing.

Ooh, bookworm. I am glad to see he bothered to create an account, and that he keeps logging in with it. After all, whenever he stumbles upon a discussion that interests him, he may be more likely act on his desire to reply.

The non-registered guest, on the other hand, may be more likely to try to convince himself that he is not that interested, knowing that he shall have to register first.

In regard to this latter case, I am reminded of what the late stand-up comedian Mitch Hedberg said: "I got to write these jokes. So, I sit at the hotel at night and I think of something that's funny. Or, If the pen is too far away, I have to convince myself that what I thought of wasn't funny."

You cant make people post. You cant motivate people to post if they choose not to. You should be posting new topics anyway to keep conversation flowing from people who actually do like to have conversations.

The person will stumble upon something they would like to reply to sooner or later. If they dont, then they dont. The world keeps on spinning. 😛

The Visitors I wouldn't look at those members in a negative way, they improve your traffic stats and it is good to know that they are reading your content. Be glad that you are providing content that they find worthwhile reading and know that they will make posts as and when they are ready.
