How to deal with negative comments about your blog or forum

Let's say you are surfing online and find someone posting negative comments about your blog or forum on their site. And, these are completely untrue and unsupported statements. How do you deal with the situation? Do you strike back by making comments on your blog? Do you launch a counter strike with factual information? Or, do you ignore?

I am notorious for tackling conflicts head on. If it were my blog I would definitely reach out to the other blog owner and try to understand their perspective (if I don't understand) and try to work out any issues if it's something on personal level. I have never encountered this myself with my blog. I imagine I would take it a bit of a compliment actually if someone were going out of their way to mention my blog on theirs - that's free advertising anyway. 🙂

You can't change anyone. You can try to offer your side of the story, but you're not going to change their minds about you, especially those who were publishing garbage posts about you elsewhere on the Internet. If you and the said disgruntled member have a go at each other, then that makes you look about as bad as the idiot criticizing you.

Just ignore them. You'll most likely never meet that person, and they likely don't know a whole lot about you.
