How to get more sign-ups?

It's been hard to get people sign-up at my forum -> http://showcrit.com/

Does anybody know a good way to get real human traffic to my site and make them join and participate in the discussions?

For a short/temporary boost in activity have you tried paid to post sites (like Postloop, The Forum Wheel, Paid Forum Posting ), contests/giveaways (works best if you have a good prize and interesting contest idea) and member to member exchanges? Other than that I think it comes down to promotion, social media advertising and personal referrals, let any family/friends that you think would be interested know. For a while until the forum gets going it may be a little quiet.

- Have you tried those paid to post sites? are they reliable?
- I'm seriously thinking on making a contest, but not sure if it might be interesting haha.
- I don't have much time to be active here and there, so post exchanges isn't an option for me.
- As for now, I have only made social media advertising and showcase my forum here and there (even forums in the same niche as mine - competitors). I will be trying Facebook Ads and similar services in the next fews days/weeks.

- I have submitted my site to thousand of directories already.
- I have requested a couple packages! The bad thing is I need to wait in order to order a new one in between.

About TV series I think you can do in some ways like:
- Create post to discuss about TV series (with good on-page seo).
- Go to youtube to do something like reupload the trailer of latest TV series like grey anatomy I can see on your site.
- Build community from a fanpage in facebook, or guest post in other fanpages
- Seeding in quora, reddit

There are some great opportunities for you to take advantage of, with new TV series being released.

During the airing of a popular show, such as Orange Is The New Black, create topics based on that current episode and share them on social media. It would usually be trending on Twitter so make use of that and use the hash tags so others see it.

Also, create themed contests based on a popular show, and promote it across social media, using relevant hash tags etc. Again, the best time is when a new episode is airing and it is trending on Twitter or Facebook.

Good luck with it and remember to take advantage of social media when the shows air.

SEO is not about a submitted site in thousand directory, It is a spam. But you can optimize your forum, create quality & related backlinks.. Do content marketing, use social media, SM marketing is also good for your forum.

Make sure you have 5 different accounts and interact on the forum with those accounts. Then with some promotion people will start to register.
