I'm the owner of a gaming blog (Obviously from the signature) and I've had several chances to do interviews with the owners, developers, ect. of games. Right now I'm about to do an interview with someone who's the owner of a game that's coming out.

I have no skills, or backgrounds as to how I'm suppose to act, what I'm suppose to ask, ect. Google is not my friend as the only things that pop up for this question are on job interviews...

If someone can help me out with what type of questions I should ask, ect. that'd be greatly appreciated.

Getting the community involved might be a good idea. What you should do is:

1. Start with some basic questions about the person.
2. Go in-depth about the game.
3. Discuss what they have planned for the future.

You should just be polite but not afraid to ask tough questions.

🙂

Questions like how did you get the idea for the game, what was your inspiration?

Just general stuff.

If you have the time, it's a good idea to ask a bit about:
- How they got into gaming to begin with.

- How they got into game design.

- What maybe some of their past projects were. (Do your research on them first so you know if they have past projects... This way if they don't have any previous games you don't ask this question. This way it doesn't make them possibly look bad if they say this is their first project. But if they have prior games this allows them to plug their old projects a bit just so people who may not have heard of them can check them out.)

- Ask them to tell you a bit about their game.
Things like what style of game, what sort of art direction (ex- 16bit sprites or 3D models on 2D backgrounds)

- What their inspiration for their current game was.

- What sets their game apart from others.

- Ask them where people can get this game.

- If If they're only launching on steam right now then ask if they'd consider bringing their games to the next gen consoles.

- Ask if they have a release date in mind, and if they can talk about that. (Since they may not have an exact date yet or they may not want to reveal it just yet.)

Though always listen to them and don't be afraid to go off-script a little and ask about something they're talking about. So if they mention a new mode for their game, ask them about it. (I mean the interview is equal part publicity for your site to hep bring people to it, but it's also for the developer to help hype their game and get news of it out so people will buy it. )

Also, be sure to thank them for taking the time to speak to you (and wish them well on their project).

And then at the end, include a link to their site for more info on the game.

When giving interviews or reviews, I tend to focus on the good things and keep it positive throughout the entire process that way everyone is happy 🙂
