I was browsing the web and found a forum using vbulletin with a premium vbulletin theme. But he was using a free domain .tk not a TLD.So I was wondering why didn't he get a TLD if he had so much money to buy vbulletin. So how can I identify it and get proof and inform the vbulletin team?

you don't need proof just shoot them an email. A few ways to see is if the site is using an outdated version of vbulletin, and if the link back to vbulletin in the footer has been changed to just text. Not fool-proof but makes the chance of it being nulled more likely.

If the person is using a .tk it's most likely fake.

Not at all. I know a person would be using a .tk domain so they'd hide the real domain. But, I think you can still figure out the domain some how on the software by clicking a link.

I was going to say the copyright footer link but that can be removed buy paying extra so you don't know if the person is nulled.

yeah but if the copyright footer is still there yet it does not contain a link to vbulletin its likely that its nulled.

Oh and a .tk would be nulled, I don't know under what circumstance would anyone use that with vbulletin if they payed for it.

@GamerPerfection, they'd usually send a mail to your host provider and your host provider can take down your site.

BUT, some hosts do allow nulled scrips so they wouldn't shut down your site.

I see. But for the host to shut down the site they would have to break the law or the hosts term of service etc. I guess the licence issue is breaking the law so to speak, but I find it hard to see vBulletin having much impact dealing with fake forums.

vBulletin does take nulled forums seriously.

If you break anything in your host's TOS they can shut down your site. You're on their server's their rules. It's like your house. My house, my rules, don't listen then get out. 🙂

I guess then it really depends on how the hosts attitude is towards vBulletin. If they don't care enough then they don't do anything.

Well I do think a host can get shut down themselves, just like how an illegal site can get shut down if they go against the law. Hosts that are offshore usually allow nulled scripts or illegal sites on their servers. There's not one I know that don't.

Send vB an email, if they find it is illegitimate they will send a DMCA notice to the host.

You're wrong, you cant make an assumption based on a domain that would deem a company in the wrong.

@ OP:
https://www.vbulletin.com/piracy.php

Vbulletin has there own way of identifying and will never tell you how they will. But use that if you feel a forum is using pirated software.

Side note:
.tk are free and premium some people don't know you can get them free so they register them off godaddy.

Just thought I would add that because everyone thinks having a .tk is ONLY free.

Who the hell buys a .tk domain? Must be the same people who purchase copies of limewire lol.

I actually didn't know .tk were free untill I looked into .free and seen someone talking about it. Could have tricked me
