How to promote this type of site/forum

One option you have is adding your site to social bookmarking websites, such as Digg.

Another option you have is promoting your site on every promotion forum that's out there, and placing your site in the signature of every forum you visit. This will help to generate backlinks to your site.

If you have the devices necessary, you can always make youtube videos and advertise your website through there.

You could try using Social Networking sites like Twitter, Myspace and Facebook to help appeal to your audience.

One thing that helps if you have regular content, and can update on content regularly, is have a blog. (I recommend using a blog with the Thesis Theme ($87) because it's easier to customize and easier to SEO).
