Hpw do you compensate your 'staff'

I think when people here refer to staff, they are largely volunteers.
How do you compensate, incentivise them?
Cash? CV boosts? Appreciation? Position?
Or all of the above?

I don't give them anything really. I see it that they want to be in a higher position to help the forum and the community first and foremost, and I can judge their care for the forum based on genuine actions, and not just to get the incentives.

Firstly i do not hire staff unless my community takes off and staff members are required. Secondly i do not reward staff really unless they really impress me
