Hi guys,

I am really upset about what someone said about my site and now I am crying and I can't take that. Can I talk to you guys about it please?

I'd recommend NOT joining this site.

David has succumbed to the dreaded disaster of post exchanges, having members who don't really have any interest in the subject at all and just want posts for their forum.

There are many more sites for General Discussion which actually have dedicated members who have a genuine, actual interest in the subject in hand.

If only we know what site that guys was talking about, we could give you our though

Stop crying. It's just a website.

Yep. They have given you feedback and now you have to decide whether or not that feedback is valid. If you have gone for post exchanges explain why.... Post exchanges help create topics and posts that actual members can reply to so they are not just talking to yourself.

I promoted my first website, which I created back in 2010, on a forum pretending to have "found" this website. It was a useful website but I went around the promotion of it completely wrong. People on the board hurled their abuse at me. It didn't stop me from creating websites and it didn't make me cry. I realised, eventually, that their criticism was valid and I've never done it again.

Good for you guys, but I think it is harsh to invalidate people feelings by saying 'it's just a website'. I agree that it is important to take the criticism but that doesn't man that the person values the time and dedication pour into the place. You might see it different because we all have different paths and objectives.

I agree with Sam that the best you can do is to take from it whatever can help you out and to defend your decisions. If you decided to do post exchanges there must have been something that moved you to it. Post exchanges are just a tool, you can choose who to make the exchanges with and with it you meet new admins (contacts). Heck, I've gained members starting with exchanges and 'buying' packages. Usually people that doesn't have an interest in your place will flat out reject the deal. So it is just a black/white comment you got there.

So, ignore the troll that is trying to get you down and keep working in your project. Keep making it unique and find a way to make it grow on its own.

Did that happened here? It is obvious the person saying this is having a Holier-than-you attitude and not exactly giving Constructive Feedback when he starts with the "NOT" joining recommendation. He is one voice, he doesn't matter as much as he'd like to think. Don't give more time on your day dwelling on the comment and keep moving forward. It may seem pretty dooming receiving such a thing but you'll see in a few days it won't matter any more. Your forum still standing will. So work to keep your forum up.

Believe me, David, I've had more than a few who used to criticize me (here alone [on the Review Team!]) far worse than that. I won't name anyone, so as to avoid degrading the team, however I will say they have since been removed and the team functions very well now. Anyway, seriously, that sort of feedback is not constructive, therefore don't take it seriously. He seems to have a very pious attitude, and as mentioned before, he [or she?] doesn't matter as much as he seems to think he does. The web business is a hard business, and I give you props for being in it. I'm sure your website isn't as bad and this person claims it is.

If you can't accept the criticism then maybe this isn't the hobby you should get into honestly. I've had numerous things said to me about things that have happened on the forums I run, reactions to bannings, etc.. there's a lot worse things that get said and you can either take their feedback and fix/ignore it or you can cry about it and not resolve anything. Some feedback sucks, but the internet is not full of people who are supportive and like everything it is you do.

Forum promotion is a way to help boost activity and get a new forum off the ground. How you create content on your forum does not have anything to do with the real members who might already be on your forum. Why this person cares about real people making quality posts because you paid for them is beyond me. Its more things to chat about on the forum and this person who is complaining about it is obviously not a member you want to have on your board anymore after this IMO.

Use it as feedback on work it, no need to take it the whole wrong way. Work on the points this person has stated and see how you can improve on them. Sitting there... urrm... crying isn't really going to help your site.

There is never going to be a shortage of mean spirited, critical people on the internet. This probably isn't the first negative person you've came across and it wont be the last.

When I encounter someone with some harsh things to say, I'll usually think about what they said and decide whether it was valid feedback or not. Maybe ask for a second opinion if I am unsure what to make of it. 😕
