Today was an historic day in that I finally got homemade french fries made correctly! In the past I don't even remember the last time I tried to fry them, tbh. But I used a deep pot, got out my candy thermometer to make sure that the temp was correct, I had my cut fries sitting in a big bowl of cold water for an hour, then blotted them a lot to get the dry. But here's something I had never done before...I sprinkled cornstarch on them! Wow. They crisped up so nicely 🙂
We have done that as well, but I had 3 small potatoes in the house from a bag I bought a couple of weeks ago that was on sale. We just don't eat enough potatoes so I needed to use them up. This was a good way to do that but I won't do it often because the heavy oils isn't good for us.
