My friend was tired of iPB and he went to the other paid software vb.

For themes I suggest http://www.invisionize.com/ they also have mods.

Be careful, Connor got exactly the same thing from Palace, although Palace gave him a nulled one, now yours can't be, however you friend can take back the account at any time. co.cc would work fine, you'd just get reported a lot but nothing would happen as long as he doesn't take back his account.

Well if he takes the account back then your board would be considered as running a nulled IPB, leaving you open to DMCA's from Invision Power.
