Well I have been left without any income for the next few weeks and It has been a mess trying to sort it all out, first of all I am NOT a benifits scrounger. I spend hours every day trying my hardest to get a job but with hardly any qualifications it is really hard for me. All I can do is keep trying

Last week two days after I had signed on I rang the job center to find out how much I was going to get paid so I could work out what to buy, Guess what they told me? They told me I had been sanctioned untill the 27th of november, no warning, no letter, no phonecall they just did it without even telling me. Prior to being told this I signed on at the job center on a tuesday, They told me everything was fine and my job book was excellent. So trying to find out why I had been sanctioned I rang them up again and they told me I had been sanctioned until the 13th of september and they said there was no reason on file apart from "not following orders" 😕 I had done everything they ever told me to do.

Facing the fact that the job center were not willing to do anything about it I rang some of my family asking for help, I had 3 members of my family who were happy to send me some money. I thought great, atleast I can eat now.

I have been waiting for the postman for 7 days straight, letters have come but no money :shake:

I went to the post office and they said "the letters will come when they come" and there is nothing they can do about it.

The goverment has failed me, the postman has stole my money..

If I can't find a way to sort all this out I won't be able to feed my cat, eat, have a hot shower or anything at all... The goverment have took my benefits away for no reason at all, how do they expect me to stay alive when theiving postmen steal my money?

I would love to get a job, but when 100 people with better qualifications apply for the same jobs as I do It just isnt happening mate. I look at the jobpoints and there is something like 8 jobs per week available in blackpool.. with thousands out of work.

They expect us to all just magically get jobs and stop relying on benefits but they do not supply any jobs for us.

The police? lol they wont do anything sadly, they are corrupt and pretty much hate me and my whole family. In fact I hate the police, not for being police but for being wankers.

Im not really surprised parts of england are rioting when the whole system is a complete mess like this, yeah people don't deserve to be looted and beaten up but they are not rioting for no reason.

Getting a job in the UK is very hard Advertise4you
And I know of people sending 20 to 30 letter CV ect a week and not even getting a letter back even my own children who are just looking for part time work while at collage are having a hard time finding work and it is ony going to get harder

The job center are placing sanctions n any one they think is not trying to find a job even if they are

I know of some one who missed a interview had is money stopped and it took him 5 hours to sort it as he had a very good reason for missing the interview, he was on his way to the interview when he collacped in the street and end in A&E it turned out he had Appendicitis and his appendics were about to bursted so it needed to be removed ASAP or he would have died

when he left hospatal he went to the job center and told them what had happen he was told he should have phoned them and they were going to stop his money but as I said it took him 5 hours to sort it out and stop the sanction

ShadyX I'm very sorry to hear about your situation and you have my sympathy, life is very difficult for a lot of people in these times of financial upheaval.

My suggestion for you would be to try and not blame other people for your situation. I'm not saying that other people are not at fault, but you will have a better chance of improving your situation if you try not to be negative and look for opportunities.

Contact the job centre and ask if it would be possible to speak to a manager. Try to get a meeting, dress up in your best clothes and explain your situation in a calm non-emotional manager. Bring any written evidence you can, that shows you have been looking for work - e.g. job refusal letters, letters of application or even posts you put on the web advertising your services.

Also try to think about ways you could earn some money, perhaps you could sell more design services, write articles or use other skills you have for freelance work.

I know that all of this is easier said than done and I wish you the very best in your current difficult circumstances. Try to be optimistic and look to the future.

Shady I agree with Fergal, PMA - Positive Mental Attitude, sometimes just having the right approach helps wonders and often things happen without you even trying.

On the postal front, maybe it's not the post man, maybe they just didn't send anything yet?

Do you not have you JSA/IS paid into an account?
Even if you don't have a bank account you can now get a post office account opened up just for your benefits to be paid in? that way you'll know exactly where your money is and if it's not been paid.

If you are really desperate you can apply for a crisis loan or a budgeting loan, they can't let you go without any money at all. Dress smartly and be prepared to spend the day in their offices, take all your paper work, go early, stay calm and explain the situation, ask them for an emergency payment. it will take a few hours but they should do something - IF your approach is right they will try to help.
Face to face is always the best bet, over the phone you can't rely on them actually carrying out what they promise 😉

As someone who is not currently in paid employed at the moment (I am working 2 days a week volunteering for free though), I have had alot of dealings with the Job Centre and it does take patience.

I have never been "sanctioned" by the job centre so I can't actually help with that side of things. I have had threatening letters in the post previously from them say You have failed to apply for a job at *Insert company name* and giving me 7 days from the date they sent out the letter to reply saying why. In all the cases I have had these letters, I have applied for the job and it is just a matter of telling them that, sending any proof and contacting the company you applied to and getting conformation from them that they actually received it. It does take up hours of your time but in the end if you act fast, calmly and productively then it will be sorted in your favor if you have done nothing wrong.

What I have learnt is document everything. Keep track of what jobs you apply for, keep all emails, photocopy all application forms and write the date you sent it off on your copy, show any proof when you go in the job centre, store all letters you receive in the post from companies and the job centre. When you phone the job centre and actually speak to someone, make a note of their name and what they have said to you along with the date and time. Act quickly at the first sign of a problem as a little misunderstanding while your claim is still active is much easier to solve then when you have been sanctioned and not getting any money.

It is a hard world out there but one of the best things you can do is volunteering. It gets you experience, looks good on your CV, gives you something constructive and worthwhile to do and look forward to and it could help lead onto something paid.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I had been trying over the last few days to sort it all out with no success.

I think I will give it another shot tommorow, but instead I will ask for an actual appointment to see somebody and take along all the evidence I can find that shows im looking for work and maybe find out what the actual reason for sanctioning me was.

And Misstake, yes I have my JSA paid into my bank account but the money I had been sent by family members has just not arrived. They have sent it, I confirmed that earlier today when my Grandma rang me asking if I had got the money. Now all my family think I am lying and trying to get more money out of them 🙁

And sadly, I did try for a crisis loan but they don't award them to people on a sanction. I have applied for hardship but im yet to hear anything back off them.

Once again, Thanks for all the support and advice guys.. It's really appriciated 🙂

i tho USA because it was bigger have more jobs to offer in greece we have the same problem im trying to get a job 3 months and nothing and ecxept that if you find you like u have to got experience otherwise they wont recruit you.

When I lived back in an apartment in Mass we had to get a PO box in a different town because the postman went on medical leave for a few months and his replacement literally would dump all the mail in the trash since he was a lazy bastard. Didn't know until we went to the post office after we didn't even receive any junk mail for a few weeks, said they couldn't do anything.

You're from greece Advertise4you? Damn I feel for you, tough getting a job anywhere but Greece seems pretty bad atm.

Sorry to hear about your situation Shadyx. Good luck with the job hunting.
