I have been toying around with forumer for a week now. I have been taking the advice of people on this forum. I can't sleep so I need to konw if I can some how transfer all my users and post to SMF? I have a host now so no more ads I have installed SMF on that host site. My members have posted 400 something post is it possible for me to import them somehow? if no I am willing to do it all manually because this switch will be for the best.

also is 200GB of bandwidth good? how much does a small forum of less than 30 members use?

Thank you oh and i get 6gb of disk space.

200GB of bandwidth is plenty. That should be good until you get into the millions and around 500+ active users a day.

6 GB of space is good too.

I am not sure about Forumer though. I'm sure someone will tell you if you can get a back-up from them or not.

Good luck.

I started out on Forumer. Good service for a free host but there is no way they will release your database. They hold it hostage so you can't leave. Better to leave now and start over while you are small than to wait until you have more to lose.

You are running an SMF forum now? I know phpbb3 has a database backup utility in the admin CP that you can use to download your database. I don't know if SMF use that.

I did think that Forumer would convert your forum to another type. Maybe have them convert SMF to phpbb3 and then you can collect the database and move it to your new host, and then convert it back to SMF????

yeah I think they're holding it. I don't see anyway to get it. Sucks thats why I'm switching for the 3rd time in 2 weeks (if it wasn't for the switching we'd have over 400 post more like 700. I told my users it was the last switch and I'm manually putting in all their old post from the old forumer. It takes forever and I never want to do this again. On forumer I was using IPB which I love but for some reason when people signed up it would hold there accounts up. I'd have to manually validate them. Even though I checked the box to stop that.

So this time I'm switching to a web host reasons I can save my own database just incase something happens, more controlon my site ,no ads and I'm doing a test site now with SMF which I like except I can't send bulk emails I'm sure there's a mod for that. And I have to find out how to put up a banner but other than that I like it. Its way simpler than IPB so I think I'm going to need some mods to make it my own. Once I get all our old important post up I"m going to close the forumer.

I might also try a test site for punbb and mybb just to see what they are like as well.

I'm pretty sure you can't move your posts/members from forumer. I used to have 60,000 posts before moving to Zetaboards.

Also, if you love IPB, I suggest Invisionfree as a free host. There are lots of MODs, skins and resources avaliable for it, plus I've found it very easy to use in the past. I don't know much about SMF though.

fantanoice OUCH! man that sounds painful you lost so many post. Thank goodness I didn't switch when that happened. This is my 3rd switch in 2 weeks of creation. I am on a real host site now. and I have changed over to SMF as my software I miss IPB but thats life. I manually switch over our important post. we had something like 433 on the second old forum I didn't post 175 I deemed them unessential. I actually logged in as members on the new site posted their threads and replies took 12 or some hours but Its done now and everyone is happy that all they have to do is reset their passwords. (i just pre registered each member kept user and email)

200 GB should be more than enough to get you started. I have about 25 - 35 active members per day on one of my forums, and I hardly even use a gigabyte. And there's more that a few other factors than just my users affecting that too.

EDIT:
Forgot. I highly doubt you can transfer over your members from Forumer unfortunately. You'd need direct access to your MySQL Database. And I haven't seen a single forum host that lets you do that.
