Hello everyone.

I had hired a developer on Fiverr to create a simple Fortnite-based related theme for my website, www.fortnitechatter.com, I wanted to use MyBB but the developer highly recommended I use IPB. I decided to go with IPB per the developer's recommendation. Everything was set up the way I wanted it, and it meets my expectations. However, I've noticed a lot of issues with trying to add additional HTML and even embed links within posts. It gives me an error and I have to turn off the ModSecurity within the cPanel every time. I am not too satisfied with IPB, especially since I am unable to post on their support forums without an actual license (using cPanel IBP software doesn't count as an actual license and I am unable to add plugins or do other necessary features without to help of my developer). I was interested in migrating to MyBB but realized that a lot of the plugins I wanted to use are no longer being supported by the plugin developer. I had thought about using phpBB but was told that I shouldn't go that route. I have been suggested Xenforo by multiple people, but I looking to use cPanel and not pay $200 to get started with an actual license. Also, the plugins are rather pricey and I do not want to pay for nearly every plugin I want to use.
Should I attempt to hire the developer again to make my current website user-friendly, or should I migrate to another forum software? Any feedback helps, I'm looking to migrate before my community gets any bigger to save on migration costs.

I'm confused, you said you are on IPB but the site you posted is on XenForo?

I have seen him make a topic awhile ago that he was on IPB then he made the move to XenForo for funds and addons reasons. That's what I think has happen.

I happened to look at the date after the post I'm thinking the same, looks like he got it sorted.🙂

Hello everyone. Yes, I had made a switch over to xenForo with the help of a developer I hired. However, I never purchased a xenForo license, and because of my lack of knowledge on anything other than MyBB, I wasn't aware I needed a license. So I have contacted xenForo to sort something out. The developer may have obtained the xenForo license illegally, putting my liability through the roof. So I'm hoping for the best.

I'd ditch all of that noise and either get a free forum like MyBB or get some custom software made for yourself. If you hire a developer to make a theme and they say that they want to use their own software always turn away.

If you're hiring something to do xyz and they will only do abc they're going to screw you over.

I'm glad to see you got everything sorted (even though I also prefer IPB over anything else). Good luck with your new forum - it looks very nice indeed!
