I am looking to set up a forum but I need a bit of assistance with the very first bit.
I am not too sure which forum software is the best to use and I don't know how to get a good domain (I don't really want to spend any real money, I want to use FP$) I also don't really know how to get the forum onto the domain once I have got one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are not looking to pay for a forum software then Mybb or Phpbb would be a good option. Once you have a domain, change the DNS to point to your host and that should do the job for you. Make sure you buy a hosting plan first though.

I will show you in 3 easy steps.

1, buy a domain name.

2, buy hosting, hostgator have some good deals on. 1cent for the first month. Point your domain name at your server.

3, both mybb and phpbb can be installed via your cpanel. just go to quick install. Done

That's nice but does it all happen on a single day? Or how long is the entire process?

Well, here is a easy method on getting a domain and getting into a hosting service. I will use the service I am using and it is called x10hosting.

1. Create an account at Freenom where you can get a free second level domain name. .tk , .cf , etc.

2. Create an account and enter your domain name that you created at Freenom. Takes a couple of minutes.

3. x10hosting will provide you a namesever which is usually ns1.x10hosting, ns2.x10hosting , and so on.

4. Go to your freenom account and manage domains and find and change to the host's name server.

All done! If you want a different hosting provider just look for their name server which is the easiest way to connect your domain to a hosting to have your website online.
