Ummm. It's kind of something you either have, or don't have. Anyone can create a forum, but running it, and managing it, to keep all members satisfied, is entirely different.
You didn't provide a link, so it's hard to say what the problem is. Something all new admins must know is ... just because you make a forum on something popular, doesn't mean your forum will be as popular as other forums you see.
It's takes countless weeks/months/years of advertising, promoting, and getting the word out. And that's actually the easy part ... the hard part, is having something unique that makes new members want to join, and actually stay in the long run.
My basic tips to being an administrator are the following:-
Don't be too strict but don't allow your members to run wild and take advantage
Always help your members where they want it and respect them. Members are important. Without them you have no forum. 1 happy member can bring many more members to the site as word of mouth is a great way of promotion.
Always join in topics with your members. No one likes admins who never post and only post when they warn someone. This creates abit of a friendship between yourself as an admin and the members. This will make them feel more welcome and more happy to come to you if they have a problem.
Your forum can always be better. Accept other users bad comments (even if you don't agree). Listen to your members and their suggestions. Member feel very happy if they know that they are being listened to.
There is alot more to running a forum well but these are the main points and if you follow these you will be off to a good start. I major thing that helps you is experience. Experience helps you run a forum better. Also as does confidence. You need to have confidence in yourself and your forum... If you don't then you are kind of doomed from the outset.
1. Let your members run your forum, not you. (relates to a famous quote "the less government the better")
2. Always interact with your members, posting in forums and etc..
3. Dont do every member's request, meaning one member said make gfx section, the other guy said make blog section, third guy says make gaming section, try to satisfy everyone with a compromise.
4. Visit your forums often and dont ignore pm's and such.
5. Post helpful tips around the forum, how everything works, like how to get into certain ranks and etc..
6. I say dont keep your staff all the time try retiring some of the staff ad getting new ones bringing new energy in, and getting members active for a promotion.
