I think I'm being hit by guest bots.

Hey everyone, I currently have these stats;

Users active in the past 24 hours: 3403 (34 members and 3369 guests)

Currently Active Users: 91 (5 members and 86 guests)

I'm looking through the IP's of these guests and they don't seem to be the same or even that close to each other. My google and yahoo and the other main ones are named so is there any other way I can determine who are real guests and who aren't? Like, I have no idea how many of those 86 guests online are actually real people and it's annoying.

The best way would be to Google the IP's to get an exact answer. If it is a spam bot or a malicious bot then it will return alot of results. Additionally, uf you have the ability to see users useragents, you can normally tell from them. If there are guests viewing with MSIE 5.5 or if they have a messed up useragent then they are usually a bot. If you combine that with what the guest is doing aswell that will help determine if it is a good user or not.

Just so you know if someone is viewing your site through a proxy it also generates more than 1 guest at a time, As it's making sure your safe while browsing a website.

Oh well, nevermind. I'll just ignore them :lol:

A large majority of them seem to be viewing the same thread.

Yeah - I'd just ignore them, unless they really do start spamming your site for real. They up your numbers and make your forum look more busy 😛 Can't really argue with that!

Check Google Analytics. It could be sent from a popular website or such.
