I want to create a game forum for my clan

I'm thinking of starting an invite only forum for my own Runescape game clan as now we are on Facebook groups, which gives me very little control over long term availability of posts. Privacy is also another issue we are facing. For awhile I liked the Facebook format, but want to move away from so much personal use of Facebook as it's just becoming a time drain. Many other game clans have their own forum and it seems to be something that helps with clan bonding, especially for announcing levels, achievements and activities as well as recruiting. I'm not sure whether or not to make our posts public, but I would want the ability to restrict who can join and what privileges they have when it comes to posts.

Do you think this idea would work? Also, I want to know how we could phase away from using Facebook groups to the forum use. Would it be so simple as an announcement? Such as, has anyone else been in this same situation? On the other hand, do you think this would just be way more work than needed so we should stay with Facebook?

You could easily restrict forum access to your clan members and it would probably be a lot easier interacting with each other in a forum than Facebook since Facebook tends to make everything more complicated now.

I agree. That would be a good thing to do! You could achieve what you want with a simple free forum software.

I like this idea and it would be easy enough to start a free forum. I want to think that my game clan will be around for ten years but you know how life goes. As involved as I am with it now, there is no telling if i will have time or be interested a year from now.
