Hello,
I have been active on and off on FP and I haven't had a community/forum since 2016.

I've always loved General Discussion forums where members get together and discuss about everything and anything. 😀
I know there's is a lot of these General Discussion forums but what would be the best to get an active General Discussion forum?

I have a lot of time at home to manage an online forum.
Thank you.

can always make an forum named, AmazonDiscussion.com

Don't ask why I just came up with that, something different but I doubt it is allowed to be used right?

If you do start a general discussion forum, maybe consider adding a very unique forum to the mix that can get some interest. You know how people have the basics like politics, health, entertainment, well, maybe add something different like a Rant forum or even something weird like Toilet Reading Stuff? LOL I dunno. Make it clever.

I agree with @Lämmchen There are many General Discussion forums out there. You need to stand out from the rest. If you browsed other General Forums, see what they do NOT have & add that to yours. Best of luck 🙂

I would think general discussion forums would be one of those most difficult niches to get into. The beauty of forums these days is to have a community that is specifically focused on one topic, as opposed to social media, which is designed for the masses.

With a general discussion forum, you don’t really have that going for you. The forum is about everything, and nothing specific. I think that would make it very difficult to hone on the potential members that you are trying to draw in.

Of course, it’s possible. I’d take a look at what @Ash is doing over a Discussion Hub, or what @Jazzy is doing with Yaketys. Two general discussion forums that are both doing really well.

They’re both using the groups add-on on XF, and that’s something I would recommend. I’m not entirely sure how just yet, but I believe that could be the key to monumental success for a community. You could potentially have a forum within a forum with the different groups, similar to subreddits on Reddit, and groups on Facebook.

It's tough to start a new forum regardless of niche in this environment unless you have a strong following on social media or are an internet personality and can easily and quickly drive significant traffic to the forum very quickly, imo.

Good luck Ashley, I know there for a while you had a few forums but as you know forums are hard and the days of if you build it they will come are long gone with social media. A General Discussion forum is great way to discuss many topics under one brand. I agree that a unique twist will have to be added to make it something that people want to join. I am sure you can come up wth something in that line to make it great.

I wouldn't bother as it won't get enough traction to be worth it. Forums are a slow dying artform and general discussion is too broad to keep anyone around in my own opinion.

I think you should try niche forums instead of general discussion. I have not seen any forum for insurance discussion. Maybe you could create a forum for insurance-related discussions.

I recommend some sort of niche over the general aspects of the board. Keep it general but focus on something to give it some kind of niche.
Then because general is so saturated, focus on developing a small community and put a lot of focus on those members. Make some best friends and then get them to get others to join.

I really think community relationships and community management is our win for members in 2022.
