Admins and forum owners - we're not perfect, right?

Sometimes, we're wrong about things on the forum. Should we admit we're wrong about something on the forum so that all members (and lurkers) can see that we're owning up to a mistake?

Or can it hurt our credibility and the reputation of the forum community?

Will you (or have you ever) admit you're wrong to your membership is the time comes?

I actually did that on Christianity Haven years ago, and there was a member who complained because I said, "I apologize" instead of "I'm sorry."

That person didn't think "I apologize" was genuine and that "I'm sorry" really meant it more.

I always make sure I post any apologies if I get something wrong. Ignoring it doesn't look good and it can come off as you being an arrogant admin.

I'm sure I've had to apologize more than once in the past and I'm happy to do it but I also know I've had to apologize more on behalf of other admins and moderators which I'm less happy to do.

I probably would have said, "I'm sorry for apologizing" lol.

Admins and forum owners aren’t perfect, and members know that. Admitting when you’re wrong actually builds respect and trust within the community. It shows that weare fairness, maturity and that rules apply to everyone, including staff. Trying to hide mistakes can damage credibility far more than owning them.

Personally, I believe if the situation calls for it an admin should admit they were wrong. Being open and honest strengthens the forum’s reputation and helps create a healthier, more respectful community overall.

Everyone is human! My personal opinion is that it can help strengthen your credibility as an admin or owner. Members need to see them taking accountability for something that was wrong if and when it happens. I’d hope that addressing it and explaining what happened would be able to help everyone move forwards.

It shows personal growth when admitting fault for a mistake. Members will thank you for being upfront with them.
