Icons in usernames?

So what does everyone think about icons in usernames? Personally I find them weird and silly, but that's me. I see a ton of forums out now with icons in peoples usernames, which I suppose ads another shop item or premium feature, but still. Doesn't it make your forum tacky?

Anyone else have icons in their usernames? Are they something worth the trouble of going through?

I used them on my forum but I had them removed because I thought it looked a little unprofessional.

I personally like them. They're a shop item on another forum that I'm at, and it's very popular. The icons used aren't too distracting. I also have one in my username there, and it think it looks good. Members also have a chance to get their icon changed, if they wish.

Icons in username is a very common factor these days and I love them too. It helps to express the members about their mood.

They look fun but seem unprofessional to me. I use a tagging system on my forum too so I wonder how that would work...
