Icyboards is now able to offer conversion to those of you using the InvisionFree hosting software. This service is absolutely free. You do not need to obtain a database, we will use a crawler script to obtain the posts, members, threads, and forums from your forum. If you are interested in moving your InvisionFree forum to IcyBoards, PM me to get the process started.

Forumotion's TOS doesn't allow crawler conversion Spork. If you make a crawler, you should probably release it separately than releasing it in Icyboards to avoid legal threat from them.

I don't see anything about crawlers in their terms of service. Regardless, I don't care. It's not against the law to spider/index a website. Google spiders millions of pages per second. I just imported a converted forum from InvisionFree with 1.2 million posts using this method this past weekend.

What would be fun (I would never do it though...) is to crawl a whole pile of boards and merge them into one massive forum 😛

Well, a friend of mine once contacted Forumotion to ask whether its legal to convert from Forumotion to phpBB using a crawler converted, and they said no. Its really up to you though.
And its against the law if you crawl a site to produce almost identical copy of it. Google crawl sites to index the content, they don't use the content to make another site.

I don't know about Invision free. I'm just saying Forumotion doesn't agree to this idea as far as i know.

I'm not copying other people's websites. I'm copying content for the content owner so he can move his content from one service to another. This is in no way illegal since the content owner is the one authorizing his content to be copied/moved.

Also, we have DDOS protection, so DDOS threads do not scare me.
