I recently came up with the idea to start a gaming website that specifically focused on game updates that come out for popular games. I was thinking of using the domain, vgupdates.com

The site would focus on recent game updates such as patches or updates for GTA5 and other popular games. There are plenty of sites such as vgreleases.com that focus on releases and other gaming news, but nothing that is specifically tailored to providing news and info on videogame updates that happens for games.

I was wondering if there would be enough content to fill the site, as well as demand for the niche. Would you guys check up on videogame updates on a site like this? Also what do you guys think about the domain name? 🙂

Sounds like fun but do a few google searches there are sites that just dont offer reviews but update info on games.

gamingupdate seems pretty big and covers all platforms as I can see,,and gamepur is another. There are some others that focus on updates but I am not a heavy gamer and really did not click around to much. I did not see any patch downloads or anything like that, but I would think most programs today do that automatically. There are offline gamers like me that look for patches to download to fix a bug that was detected in the game, or with gfx cards, etc.

Go for it. People like updates on just about anything today.

Thanks for the feedback 🙂

I was more thinking of like when GTA5 does a new online update, such as valentines day or other addons they provide, as well as coverage of DLC and online updates of other games.

Just doing a recent search, I see that lots of people search for terms such as "Insert game here updates"

I basically wanna provide information on upcoming and current updates, as well as reviews for updates that were released

The domain name sounds cool. 🙂

If there are lots of people searching for that, I'd say you should make the site.

Many companies today inform people of any updates from the main site. no? I had a bug on my laptop and the only reason I know about it is because I visit my laptop company main site often and read if there are any updates and patches for software other than windows since I have shut off the monitoring system software.

But a patch site for all kinds of downloads is a good idea since all that stuff is public domain related. My first site was heavy on the updates and patches that I kept up on and ppl liked it. Lots or work though keeping up on things though. Be prepared to spend alot of time online and updating your site. Its a good idea if you have all that extra time to mess around with online.

You could, but many of the bigger video gaming sites (ign, gamespot, etc.) cover updates to video games as well as all other video game news. Its definitely a very specific niche of video gaming, though, and is something that could be successful if you can make yourself a little different than just providing a basic overview of the update/DLC like these sites mostly do.

The main focus would be on updates, so Reviewers could review updates and even users could leave their own review on the update. I would provide full details about updates and news surrounding those updates, as well as upcoming updates that are set to release.

I know it would be a niche within the gaming industry, but I feel like it is something no other site is providing atm (similar to the way vgreleases.com got started) 🙂

I recommend focusing more on reviews rather than on news! This is because your reviews would make your site unique, not common news.
