Hello,
I have an idea to make a really simple forum using one of my vBulletin Licenses. My plan is to have it on vB3.8 since its still supported. It will use the default theme, the only thing modified will be the logo. I already have a name for it to "LegacyBB"
So here is my proposal on what it will be about....
Some of you know, but some of you don't but I am making a 3 Part Documentary about the history of Forum Software ( all 3 parts are an hour long!) I announced it on the TAZ forums a week ago. LegacyBB is basically going to be a memorable/Museum where Admins can meet and collaborate. However, its not going to be your "every other admin community" rather, it will be ran by by other entities. I'm looking for people who are still interested in Community Making and want to reserve the future of online communities.
Like most Admin websites we see a same repeat in the same process of these communities. The site will be open for people to advertise their board and help each other to make you more successful. But what makes it different? It will be the forum Index it self. While it does hold a default structure so it can hold the memory of how far we came today. But why vBulletin 3.8? Although it is old, but it is still supported and it's also the oldest software that is! *cough* I can't afford UBB.Threads at the moment I know that's been around longer...
Like most websites, I don't aim to be competitive, but instead just a collaboration to reserve the rest of the communities still floating out there.
Okay, Yeah that's also the purpose of FP, so why a whole new website out of it?
The problem is that there are WAY too many forums that just repeat themselves, we need to tackle UX, and niche. And while this is just a board about Legendary Forums and Thriving new Forums, the idea is to preserve them and help them grow. As admins it's our duty to make our own forum grow. It's time to bring back the golden age of communities.
People haves lives and responsibilities, nowa days they use facebook... This is true. The reason Social Networks is winning is because we fear it someday will ultimately kill community software. Some corporations still use it because its a good way to receive feedback from their customers.
So we know the symptom, we know the problems, but how do we fix it? Are we doomed? That's where LegacyBB comes in mind, Admins didn't get lucky, they had a certain talent just to grow a site. We goota stay strong, and once my Documentary comes out it will also make all the well good sense.
What do you think?
