I'm trying to build up my Twitch account. I've got about 40 followers and stream about once a week. I would like encourage more people to talk in my chat (I usually only have like 1 or 2 people) because the interactivity is really nice and I'm not the best at talking into air.

What are your ideas? I'm thinking I need to stream more frequently and also get some graphics. I've been thinking about setting up a Discord chat so I can play with followers and have them on voice but not sure at this stage.

I'm an streamer here also and it's not easy as it used to be years ago and hard to grow.

  1. Watch other streamers and jump into their chat, you could even become a moderator!
  2. Do something different to your usual on Twitch
  3. Team up with streamer friends and join them on their channels when they are live
  4. Use Twitch Clips across all the social media channels such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook
  5. Join the Twitch subreddit and get chatting!
  6. Let people know your schedule on Twitter (and pin it to the top of your profile)
  7. Set up a Facebook Group and promote it during your stream
  8. set up a Discord and chat to everyone
  9. Be a nice person, help other people and other streamers, spend time engaging with their content and social media posts treat them like a IRL friend.
  10. Engage with your viewers when they chat to you in the chat.
  11. Have good overlays that are not over the top and people can see the game as well as other little things.
  12. Stream giveaways when live.
I'm a streamer also that I been streaming for none stop

Yeah I did repost one of my clips to Insta which got some traction. I also post when I'm streaming in my Story and on Twitter.

I do need to participate in other people's streams more. I have no interest in moderating another one however.

Teaming up is definitely a thing I'm interested in and is one of the main reasons I want to set up a Discord.

Overlays are also a thing I need to get onto. I'd like to make my own but maybe I should just commission them

What games do you stream? You really need to find another streamer who is at the same level as you are. Meaning I would not go with an person who has 5,000 more followers then you.

When starting off I think you need to focus into the branding and overlays before you really start streaming. Try and do something that suits you! end of the day it's about what you want and how you feel rather then just copy and past.

Switch over to Mixer > Become a part of the already awesome community there > Profit? 😛

Well obviously I'm not going to barrage a popular streamer to play with me but if I get the opportunity I'm going to take it :b

I stream Nintendo and Indie games mainly. Also interested in Fortnite and Overwatch for group games, because I like them not because they're popular. Also want to do some gamedev / creative stuff.

But yeah not having a good computer is really holding me back, I hope I can upgrade soon.

No

Have you tried Mixer? @fantanoice ? It has some pretty awesome features and a pretty awesome, non-toxic community. 🙂

If you don't have a good enough computer to stream, you're pretty much screwed regardless of the platform you're planning to stream on.

There's a few features I like on it like co-streaming but ultimately more people are on Twitch. I also don't know if they'd eventually crack down on non-Xbox / Windows games. I'm open to streaming to both platforms to experiment however.

My computer is about 7yrs old now. It can barely run PC games but it can run OBS and my capture device so that's what I've been rolling with.

Good idea but I would say it comes down to what he feels comfortable with. I have used Mixer myself and that being said I have grown allot more then on Twitch, different viewers and allot of smaller user base.

I use https://restream.io/ It's an system that allows you to stream on all streaming networks! Twitch, YouTube and Mixer... I did not and still use the https://restream.io/ option. So it's an good way to see which will grow and once you see what platform is bigger then stick to that. Keep in mind once you are affiliate or partnered you can not stream on all platforms

Having a good streaming PC will help. an $500 to $900 will do the job regards just streaming but regards gaming on a PC you need an better system. Unless you have two PCs one for gaming and the other streaming. Me I Have one PC that does both.

YEpppppp

What's your system specs @fantanoice ????

but ultimately more people are on Twitch
Doesn't matter regards that. Twitch isn't to grow. Mixer is little more easy to grow, yet comes down to what games you stream and what you offer regards what I mention above. You can check my channel out if you like and see how I did my panels and overlays

I am a Mixer streamer myself and I myself find the getting yourself out there is the hard part. Networking is definitely the way to go 🙂 whether it be through social media, through forums or through jumping into other people's chat's on the platform you stream on. It's awesome to be able to make friends and I have made so many streaming through Mixer myself who have helped me in so many different ways when it comes to streaming 🙂

I set up an overlay that I'm very happy with. 😎

Yeah I did a quick Google after looking into Mixer and came across Restream. Definitely sounds like a handy tool if the price is right.

As I said, I'm open to experimenting with other platforms. It's more that I found it frustrating to have someone derail the, "How to promote Twitch" question with a whole "GO ON MIXERRRRARRR" tangent.

Also yeah, I'm aware of the partner thing but cross that bridge when I get there, ay. 😛

Mate you saw the rig I want to build in the other thread. 🙄 I want all the bells and whistles of course!

Without testing it I can't see if it actually easier to grow. I can see it having potential in that there's less competition but you also have way less potential viewers able to track you down. I had a quick squizz at Mario and Pokemon and there wasn't a single viewer for any of the games, so I have no idea if it is an untapped market or there's literally nobody on it who wants to watch/play them.

Rippp 😛 She she she lol

Not bad, But people rather see the game in full screen with overlay around the game capture.. Yet again since you are running an old game and if you make it more bigger the quality be rubbish.

. Definitely sounds like a handy tool if the price is right.
It's free 🙂

"GO ON MIXERRRRARRR" tangent.
It wasn't be that mention it but regards growing it's one way to go about. Like ask those people on mixer to follow on twitch.

Yes I'm aware of that but it's now not in one year or so time. I mean you know when you will get another PC? The PC you have now will just be fine as an streaming pc if you added an game capture card that also encodes but regards all in one? nope you need consider another new gaming rig as you already have your saved list.

That game is 4x3 so it would letterbox pretty much on every monitor anyway. If it was 16x9 / 16x10 then yeah I'd agree to an extent. I personally don't like people putting their webcam selves / other graphic crap over the game window and would prefer a separate column for all that.

I plan to get the PC once I've worked out all the parts. So very soon, definitely not a year away. XD

Wow!! You have provided a nice plan in detail. I would definitely try these steps with my twitch account.

Expect to takes it's time. If you are an active streamer, who streams more then 4 times a week around 3 to 4 hours at a time.
