If A Real Alien Attack Happened?

How would the world react? What would the government, military, and President do? Would they issue out an evacuation if the aliens did not come in peace? Would we go at war with them? How would the humans react and what would realistically happen if an alien attack or signs of alien life occured on Earth?

I believe if we were attacked, we would send fleets of helicopters dangling disco balls from a grappling cord playing bad 80s music and we'd all get down and funky. Fairly obvious IMO

If they enslaved everyone against our will and had advanced technology that not even the military can comprehend with I would probaly commit suicide because I wouldn't wanna get caught up between the danger of the aliens and military.

War, that's it really. Attempting to negotiate with warlike extra-terrestrials would likely be futile due to language and cultural barriers. Unless, the aliens had access to planet busting technology, or had invading fleets in the millions or even billions, Earth could effectively fight back.

And what if the aliens came to Earth to adapt to our society like in District 9? Would we issue something about this and try to negotiate with the aliens in hopes of them going back to their planet with their superior knowledge? And if they did come to Earth to harvest humans and take over humanity how would everyone react?
