Think of a forum you've owned in the past or even one you currently run. If you could restart that forum, what would you do differently? Why did you pick the forum you did?

Easy one for me, Forum Hour. I made a lot of rookie mistakes and I think I gave up a little too early on it. I don't really regret how things turned out, but I often think about what it would be like if I had hung in there a little longer.

Well, I only own 1 forum, so it'd be that one. I'd probably start it off on a paid forum software, with a premium theme, and not use a free forum host like Forumotion or IcyBoards.

Discussion Hub which was a general discussion forum that I had. The mistake I made was I sold it when I thought that I couldn't run it anymore because of time. I should have kept it but maybe got another admin to help me out more

Yes, I ran a forum called twilightTech and it didn't grow too rapidly in a short period of time and I ended up giving up all hope on it after a couple of months and gave it to another administrator. Also I wouldn't create a forum using Freeforums or ProPhpBB again and maybe use a more professional software like IPBoards.

If I could restart 1 forum, it would have been one that I had major plans for. It was an advertisement forum that I had numerous projects for that would help admins advertise their forums and websites. The main problems I had though, was that I was on a limited host, and I didn't do my best to advertise and get staff members to help me out.

Ha my current forum lol. I have made a LOT OF mistakes and while we're going strong, it's not the future I envisioned for it.

Four years back I started a forex trading forum and it had a good success. I was new at that time and did not know much on running forums. One day I was changing my server and at that time I dont know what went in my mind I just closed the forum thinking that running a forum was waste of my time.
Now and then I think of the mistake that I made and regret the decision I took on that day.

What I have learnt is never give up on your forum. The forum I am working currently working No matter what I will make it success.

Tough question.I honestly don't think there's anything I could do differently. I think if I failed with one forum under my management than its likely I'd fail with the next one. Having a forum gave me a good experience and that was fun while it lasted.

One thing I learnt in the past is not to give up when things goes wrong. Things goes wrong very often and if you give up and sell your forum, then you will lose a lot and regret it in the future. The thing you should do is keep trying. Do some trial and error until you get it right; while it may take a long time to get it right, it will be worth it and even if it goes wrong in the end you would have learnt a lot from the experience. However everyone makes mistakes and this cannot be avoided. The important thing is to learn from your mistakes and don't make them again.

I don't think there is any forum I would restart because while there are projects I had in the past which would be good to work on again, I can't see too much potential in it and it is very hard to start something new these days unless the idea is very unique.

I used to own a Webmaster forum 1 year ago. It had 2000 posts and 5-6 active members when I finally decided to close new registration and creating new posts/threads because I realized that I was not really qualified to own a webmaster forum and the forum was going no where.
I now have enough money and time to invest on that forum and would have loved to start it again but sadly forum files, database, everything... is gone. After a week of me closing the forum, one of my friends whom I shared my hosting account with, accidentally deleted that site, i.e, files, database everything. I called my hosting company, GoDaddy, but they failed to recover the files. I had really worked hard on that forum, I had hard coded various mods that were not present on any other mybb forum, but I lost everything, I had no back up of the files.

I ran Futuruama Fan Forum for about a year before it went offline. If I could do things differently I would have gone into it with more funding for a new theme and promotion, and I probably would have taken on another administrator to assist with the running of the forum. Definitely my biggest regret to this day in terms of forums.
