Paid. I will never use free hosting again. I've put unimportant things on free hosting before, but you just run the risk of the host getting into "financial" trouble and not being able to afford the servers.

Paid every time.
Starting out you only need a domain name (look out for sales - my last one was less than $2!) & shared hosting (pay monthly to reduce the initial bill 😉) - you can always upgrade as your grow. You could be up and running for less than $10 - why risk going with a host that may/may not take backups or even exist tomorrow to save that little cash?

It's worth it to go with paid hosting... If you're going to invest time, you might as well invest some money too because it will be far more beneficial than dealing with a free webhost.
