Recently on my forum i have had quite a bit of activity with lots of people posting and regular visitors to my site, now this seems to have dried up a bit and not much is happening. I have tried nearly everything i can to make my site a friendly and attractive place to be but alas not much is going on. My stats for my board aren't too bad Total Forum Posts: 53,512
Total Forum Posts Today: 102
Today's Top Player is: grpalmer1984
Total Members: 191 (The newest member is defrt)

at most out of all the members i have only about 12-15 actually post regular. Does anyone out there have any suggestions to what i can do to get more regular posters and keep my site going.

My site: http://talk-ofthe-toon.co.uk/index/

Any help with this will be gratefullyy appreciated 😀

Maybe because Newcastle FC is rubbish? (Middlesbrough supporter here)

But seriously, you should try sending mass email to your members asking them to come back and maybe make some sort of big update that gives people a reason to go back.

tried the mass email bit a few times but no response, i'm not sure what kind of big update i could do

Well a lot of people tend to give up on attracting new members when their forum starts to get a little bigger. I would think that is what happened in your case. Maybe try getting some bloggers for your particular subject to come and guest post. Then you can advertise that you are having some special guests come and post on your forum. That will offer potential members some thing that no one else can.

in what way do you mean?

I had the same kind of problem with my old forum for nearly 5 years. Lots of active members.... then nothing. Then lots of activity again... then it was like a graveyard.

Honestly, the hardest thing about administrating a forum is getting people to stick around past the honeymoon period.

Well done on getting over 50,000 posts onedmc2009, good work.

You might get some good feedback by PM'ing some of your previously active members and ask them for their honest opinions on how well your forum is doing and if they have any suggestions as to how you can improve it. This would help you to uncover if there is any particular reason why your members are unhappy.

You need to be constantly working to keep activity up there. How long has it been since your forum "dried up"? I see activity over there, but I don't know how it measures up to how it was or how long it's been since your forum started to decline.

Step number one is to actually, just keep an eye on your forum's stats. It can be hard to tell especially on a large forum whether it's in a slump or not, but if you catch it early it's a lot easier to pull out of it. Recently we've had a slowdown, things were slow for us all last week. So all last week I initiated an effort to boost us back up with new features and a cleaned up layout. We brought in a character generator tool, advertised that, posted promotional blogs and ads around like on Facebook, introduced a new marquee to feature people's Clans and also, especially, pushed hard to clean up our convoluted navigation. It's too soon to tell whether it'll help but this week's already been stronger.

This Upend to my forum aswill Ive done some majour updates i hope this will workout
