Do you leave a forum when you have a disagreement with someone? Do you create a "goodbye thread" to announce that you are angry and not coming back?

Normally these "goodbye threads" end up creating problems. The person says they are leaving because of some petty disagreement then the rest of the members come and call them a "drama queen" or "immature" or "childish" or whatever. Usually they end up being locked or deleted on most forums. What is the point of making the infamous "goodbye thread" ? What does the person think they are going to accomplish by creating one of these? If they were really going to leave, they should just logout and not come back.

To create drama if they are leaving because they are upset. If the people who liked them on that forum read that, in their eyes, they were treated unfairly... it can cause a domino effect and uproot a community.

If they are leaving just to leave then a goodbye thread is just saying that they enjoyed the people that they made friends with and wanted to make a proper exit rather than to just disappear.

But sometimes people make goodbye topics to make a rant about how stupid the forum is.......

When i leave, I just leave and don't go back and don't make a thread about it 😉.

I admit I have done it before and may do it in the future but it really doesn't help and is pointless. You should just leave and have done with it, best thing to do.

I usually just PM the people I talked to the most, and maybe leave a message in my signature or profile. The only time I decided to make a thread was when I stopped actively admining Hortorian. In a nutshell, school got in the way, so as soon as I trained in two new administrators, I took up a lesser role. The difference is that I haven't left. I'm still the owner, but I'm just stepping back a bit from actual management. I contribute ideas like the rest of the staff, but I don't like the responsibility to do so, you know?

I would prefer to make my absence unknown, or just not let them know, they would know in like a week or two that I am gone.

Anyway, I thought you were leaving for a minute Theezy.

Why make extra drama? Life's dramatic enough as it is. If you want to leave, just leave, no one cares.

Some guy on my forum made a "Depart Thread" and it has over 100+ replies, many of which were posts consisting of "I'm leaving this forum, etc" blah. It's so pointless - who honestly gives a rat's ass? To be honest, I think it actually encourages people to leave the forum.

I removed the thread now.

I tend to create drama by making these types of topics, then return the next day. It's mighty fun! Same thing with saying "This is my last forum ever" or "I'm done with foruming".
