I'm nearly halfway on the verge of completing a social media web API. I don't want to spoil it by revealing its features, or even so much as try to promote the idea, but instead I want to get ideas about advertising. And also I want to get the general sentiment of people around here. If I asked whether it's worth advertising a social media site, you'll just say it's worth to get whatever advertising you can get. So i'll just ask

Do you think you'd sign up at a social media site advertised here, without any other information given besides its name and a basic description of the site? I'm not really looking for ideas for features. I am looking for ideas to advertise it effectively among message board circles, so yeah

pls help

Hi,

If I like your social media site, then I would certainly join if you advertised here.
A lot of us here are into social media ourselves so it would certainly be a good idea to advertise it here. 😀

The only advice I have for you is to make sure that no part of your social network resembles facebook.

I mean i'll have some features that facebook has although its implementation isn't gonna be done exactly like it is on facebook...

but I get what you're saying

I would also like to add that make sure you have some unique features that social networks don't already have.

you, being fresh and unique is a key for any website and forum on the net...

and it should always be user-friendly, easy on the eye, easy and fun user tools/features and customization, especially for a social media site and a forum...

but, any who, yeah, i'll give it a try out to see if i like it and do some exploring... 😀

I tend to agree with those who have already posted. If it is different from facebook, twitter then you should be good to go.
And yes, I will give it a shot....I'll sign up.

I would only join if private messages are encrypted or can be and posts arent saved forever like in Facebook

nolvorite, I would only join if I was able to actually delete my account if I decided to do so. Otherwise . . . I wouldn't even consider it. I don't have a Facebook for that very reason.

I like you created a social media forum, thought it would really take off but to be honest I have had absolute no interest in it which to me was a real shame.

I have a lot of family members on the social media giants and so far only a few are helping me out but it has got to the point where we have now changed it to a community chat forum.

we offer private messages, private chat for the forum only, and roll on roll off system, latter not implemented due to lack of anyone signing with us.

even with the above sadly we have had no joy from anyone signing up with us so it is getting to the point of putting the forum in hold mode till we can come up with something else later on.

in respect of social media forums, you will or may find that those on the big social giants prob won't even take a sniff from budging to other sites.

if I was you have a real good think about your site and do some serious background work before launching.

The only way to make this successful IMO is to offer something that has not been used before, be unique..

I would sign up if you advertise here.

Advertising only name and description really is effective because when people search for something they need, they only look at the name and description.

Description of website will tell if you are at the right place.
