I sometimes receive a message from the admin when I go inactive in some forums. It’s just a simple hello or a new activity like a contest. Obviously, the message is meant to remind inactive users to check on the forum again. I think that’s a good way of maintaining connection to the members of the community. However, the poke should not be too often so as not to irritate the member.

The frequency is the big question here. I would keep it down to once in a month 😀

I just keep it as is, If you tent to get ride of members for inactive the forum gets less total members amount

I do this, but quite infrequently. I think I sent 5 since the site opened in May 2016. Once a month is honestly too often because people will get mad and unsubscribe. I would only do it if there's a good reason to do it like new features, events, holidays... don't bore your users.

I very rarely send out mass emails. if I do, there's usually good reason for it. My way of thinking is that if a member wants to return to the community and be active after going inactive, they will do so on their own merits. I find it annoying when forums do this to me and pester me to return when I have little to no interest in doing so, so I try not to do it too often to my own members/community. 🙂

I think it should be once a month at the most. Not more. The reason for this is because you can annoy members and then they won't come back at all.

You'd be lucky to get even inactive members. In that case, the idea of forcing people to post is ridiculous. However, though, if it were an Army platoon or college class, it would be different.

I've dealt with worse things. Far, far worse things.

Some sites send me an annoying email telling me that I have a PM. The admin sent a PM to every member on the entire site every month. I ended up blocking the email, I consider that trash spam.

Never -ever- pester me for money.

yet why would an admin do that?

I sometimes send out an email to remind inactive members we are still around, but one point to take note off, is that people change their email from time to time, and the person may never get it

The servers are expensive, I need to pay the bills! I need more! Aaaa! Help me! I spend thousands of dollars on these servers every month!

Something like that, but with less melodrama.

hmmm, well even then I don't send pm's out

I'd only say yes if it was a major update to the community, new features etc. Just having something send someone a new email/notice on a schedule seems a tad annoying and would honestly probably make them never want to come back.

I think this is pretty good, especially if you notice that your forum is getting lesser activity.
But, it should be once a month, sending more than that will do no good.
