What do you do with inactive members ?

Do you keep them so your forum looks like it has lots of members or do you delete them ?

If you delete them how long after they join do you delete them ?

I delete all of the inactive members because they look horrible on your board. I delete them once every couple of months. 🙂

We keep them. Not to make the forum look like it has lots of members (we aren't greedy, that's for sure!) but simply the fact of the matter being that we don't like to delete member accounts because you never know when a person will want to come back again someday.

Yeah that's true. 😛 BUT it might be a spam bot or just a regular but that you can delete.

A Few forums I go to will only delete inactive empty accounts if it will make a difference in doing backups and maintenance.

I delete accounts that have 0 post and accounts that haven't been logged into for 4 months

I send out "Your account is pending deletion" mass PM's to anyone in the "New user group". I usually delete one a month.

I just keep them. There's no harm in keeping inactive members. Plus, there's always the off-chance that they might decide to return one day.

I delete them after a month in they have not been back after joining or making a post

I just pruned accounts with zero posts (registered before June 1st).

However I would not delete accounts that have posts on them. If they've made some posts or at least introduced themselves, there is a chance they might come back one day.

Zero posters could be a spam bot that never attacked or a person who changed their mind about the forum or whatever.

I don't know of a really good reason to delete them, hence I don't. We sometimes have members come back to our business forum, after not having posted for quite some time. Plus people join and then browse the forum without posting on it - that is good for the community, why should we delete their accounts?

I came here, made 400 posts, left for like a year, and came back.
If I came back to find out my account was deleted, oh boy I would've been PISSED! 😛

I take this into consideration and add users to the "prune" list one by one. Users who register and never login get axed, users who login frequently and never post get to stick around... but have to deal with the "Your account is pending deletion" PM's.

I have no problem with them unless they have 0 posts; if they have 0 posts I will delete them in 6 months.
Otherwise I don't mind, as long as they have contributed somehow.

I usually delete them in One month...as in the Forum Stats I would like to see Members who have posted close to 100% 🙂..

Inactive members or members with zero posts are of no use to the forum 😛
