I have been talking to some existing forum admins these days and they seem to be very confused why people don't flood the gates anymore when a new forum opens up.

Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen a forum grow super fast without time playing a factor. Seems that if ones forum doesn't just blow up with thousands of posts they get discouraged...

Does anyone else see and or hear this from existing admins?

I mean especially these days it seems like any kind of forum you'd want to possibly be a part of community on there are a bunch available.

I have heard this too, many admins don't have the dedication or the patience to sit and watch their forum grow, which is a real shame, because if they put in the hard work, they could probably develop and active userbase and enjoy their forum.

They would be expecting too much especially from a new forum. That's by any standards. You need patience, need to be able to work to get your forum off the ground and active. It doesn't happen overnight. It can be hard to get a forum new content and to grow. You need to put the time and effort in, and certainly not expect something to happen so easily when it won't.

The three posts that are above mine pretty much sum everything up, there's probably nothing more to say. You need time and effort in order to raise your forum from the ground upwards. It's like raising a child, you need time and effort and you must nurture it so that it may become an independent human being. 😛

A lot of existing admins have a track record of opening and closing forums too frequently. People who've been around a while notice that and might sit back to wait & see if this existing admin is going to give up on yet another forum or not.
