it might just be easier to use wordpress and you can easily integrate it with mybb. infact theres a plugin for it.

I know But I might be completing against yahoo So I have to start from scratch to win 😀

And what makes you think I Carnt beat Yahoo??

Because Yahoo is an organization whereas you are a single person.
I'm not saying a single person can't make a system better than yahoo. But what i'm saying is, you need to obtain necessary knowledge before that.

When you learn web programming languages like PHP, HTML, CSS, jQuery, AJAX, etc; make some opensource projects and get some fame and knowledge, then no one would laugh at you when you say you are going to compete with Yahoo. 🙂

you have A Point
I'm going to make Mybb mods as my first project 😀

So how did Yahoo start?
How many people were running it then?

When yahoo started search engines and stuff were new. Spudster believe me I'm also taking on a project this big. And I'm been sensible about it: I'll learn all the coding languages and I'll even take courses to improve my spelling and grammar just to make me more professional. You don't have patience you want the source code to your dreams to just fall on your lap and it's not going to happen, I'm not saying to give up. I'm saying to have patience.

I'm going to take some courses online soon
And How about Facebook MySpace was already there before Facebook game along

Facebook started out as a "small" site that was only for Harvard students as they needed a Harvard.edu email account to register. It than went viral and started spreading among other university's/colleges and later into what it is today. Facebook also went through tons of conflict including lawsuits that settled for over the 50 million dollar mark.

Trying to take on someone like Yahoo is fine but you need to be sure that you have done all the research including legal affairs and mapping out the "what-ifs". I don't know what your programming experience is and I'm not going to judge you and say you can't do it but I will say to make sure you are prepared for the size of the project you want to execute. Mark Zuckerberg (since your comparing to Facebook) developed a team or programmers that he hired on as interns, he was also what I would consider a "computer genius" and knew programming.

I also always set my goals big and I get knocked down to realizing that the first ones on my list are the small targets, than let the reputation and respect grow and take on a Fortune 500 company. Another thing to consider is as soon as you became a threat to anyone as big as Yahoo, they would either buy you out or go about another route to take you offline just because they have more money to push around than you or me or anyone else on this forum.

You mentioned starting out with addons for MyBB which would probably be a great first step to take to bigger and better things. To answer your question in your first post, yes there is a way to integrate with MyBB but I've never done it so not sure how exactly.

I did a quick Google search and this thread came up, not sure if it can be of any use to you but may want to take a peak: http://community.mybb.com/thread-36634.html

I do not want to see any more rudeness towards Spudster in this thread. Constructive criticism is welcome, but rudeness is not valuable or welcome at all. You all seem to forget that people have feelings, and when you all act rude, they get hurt.

And sometimes people ignore constructive criticism and it takes more to get the message in their heads.

Not trying to argue, just voicing my opinion.

I am sorry for sounding rude before Spudster, you have got a talent of making people laugh though 🙂 (In a good way)

as an answer to your question, have you read this topic on the mybb forums ?

You could use the mybb tables for login/registration when your developing your site from scratch and build everything around mybb, it saves loads of confusion and is a simple way to go about it.

Spudster,

You lose me every time. The last project I recall was creating a social network o.0. It has been said already that you need to stick with one project and stop jumping around so much.

Websites take a lot of time to create and you need to have A LOT of patience as said above.

Trust me, I have done what you are doing now. It destroys your reputation when you just quit other projects to go to another.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A RUDE POST.

I dont mean to make people laugh XD

And i do have alot to learn all programing lanuages in order to compete with any site such as Facebook,Google or Yahoo
I do have an Idea for a site that I will build once I get more knowledge on programming

@dan213 I will be starting my goals small which is creating A Sucessfull forum (without the open/close business) and developing Mybb Mods

@SnoBOOthehobo Thanks 😀 It wont take long before constructive criticism to go in my head

And when Zuckerberg Rivaled Myspace why didnt Myspace take Facebook ofline back then the company wouldnt be as rich as it is Today?

Because Facebook earned a lot first place, so that they can figh against any troubles. No site has ever seen such a breakthrough first.

The web is your oyster. Be what you want it to be, but, I think you should stick to one thing. And you should plan what you want to do before you do it.
Remember, it takes time and effort to get a website up and running.

Don't keep switching on and off, because your members will be confused and will just leave. You need the communities' opinion.

Not saying that your site will be unsuccessful, but just try to stay on one thing and if you think that you should add more, you should do that. And getting a second opinion really helps.

And if you are stuck on design, you can always ask someone who has web designing experience.

Good luck on your site.
