This is a project I'm doing in class. It's supposed to be an 'interactive narrative' dealing with illegal immigration from the perspective of 1) Politician/s, 2) Border Agent, and 3) Immigrant. This is the politician page:

Design:

*May not display correctly on your browser* Live Link

Note: 1. There's interactivity on the image. 2. None of the links/buttons work other than the 'Vote Record' icon.

Comments, critiques, and suggestions wanted!

Site doesnt load correctly for me.
the interactive image displays itself BEHIND the bio text.
im using Chrome.

you should have a landing page that allows the viewer to choose what perspective they'd like to see. then once theyre there you could have a button on the right (much like an arrow icon) that is something like "See what Marco __ has to say".

Interactive in my mind doesnt mean images that load text or pop something up.
in my opinion the teacher wants it to be interactive in the sense that the documentary should react to what the viewer is wanting to see.

so instead of having blocks of stuff for the politician and the immigrant maybe you could do something like one of those flip books that has multiple endings, or in this case maybe its just a different order of events.

Example --
Immigrant: I think ....
Then a small thing that asks the reader: What would you like to see next?
Option 1- More about why the immigrant thinks this way.
Option 2- What politican/s think about this immigrant's view.
Option 3- What course of action the border patrol agent will take.

Then you could even have it randomized for border control, to reflect both sides of the immigration debate. For the immigrant you could even have both sides of the coin - Submission into a state of nothingness, or determination to get across the border no matter what.

For politician you could have multiple people so an option could be 'See what Mr. ___ has to say about this", or simply allow the reader to bring up new facts from the politician on each click.

Thanks for informing me. I'll work on the display errors. Here's a screencap of how it should look: http://p8i.com/360/immnew/screen.png

Great idea, and it is actually something I do plan to implement. See here: http://p8i.com/360/characters.png . I decided I didn't like that design and am in the process of redoing that specific page.

Edit: Just noticed more feedback! 🙂

Gotta go but one question. Does your project specifically say Mexican immigrants? you may 'stand out more' if you dont use mexicans? Just a hint - Believe me this kinda stuff actually will engrain in someone's mind and hopefully that mind is ur teachers

I agree with you there. The user will have that option on the previous page. That's in addition to the select a character drop down menu on the individual character pages. On the splash page I've developed, there's a tab to watch a video (introducing them to the subject) and a large button prompting them to 'Enter The Story'.

I definitely like your ideas. I'll have to find a way of incorporating them without totally abandoning my structure. And I'm not entirely sure what would trigger those options with the current set up. I could have a button that says something like 'Done Reading?', and then when they click it those option buttons fade in.

Yes, I specify that on the homepage screen and on their profile page.

I like the look of that. nice design I would say have a colour scheme rather than the black and grey. to me it looks boring :/
