An online message board is probably the worst place to ask this, but do you think activities such as social media, online message boards, blogs, and things like that have taken over people's lives?

Yes, there is always "used in moderation", but it's like alchohol: can people really have enough self-control to use it in moderation? In some cases, of course. Some people, though, when they have one drink, they need another. And then another. And then another. (Please remember that's not the topic. It's just an example.)

I just see people who post on blogs more than 3 times a day, have 10,000 posts on a message board they have been a part of for only a couple of months, and people who have lengthy, heated arguments on Facebook.

So, what do you think?

(I don't know how "debatable" this topic may be. Depending on where the discussion goes, I may request to have it moved to "Intellectual Talk".)

I think it feeds a certain addiction to be heard. Everyone has a voice, and sometimes people are dying to be heard.

If you think about it there are a lot of people out there that lead double lives. They are seemingly more popular in their online community, but in their own every day life they probably feel like they're lost in the world's populous.

I feel like everyone needs to feel that their important in some form. Sometimes we need that just to validate our existence.

I don't think so. I have a life, I have a job, go to school, manage a gf, pay my own bills, go out shopping and hang out with friends and still manage. It is the lowest piece in my life.

I don't think so. I only get online at night time; as what can I do at night? But I also run a company online as well.

Many people feel that their need for internet is their escape from their real world problems. Many feel safer online talking with others and maybe feel like they are welcomed in some places rather than not being welcomed in real life.

That's me as well. Minus the bf/gf bit, as I don't have a boyfriend. However, I do have a job, I am involved in church activities as well as go to church in general, so technicly, no, I don't think the Internet runs my life, despite the fact I have a forum to run. Like the Hat Tipper, I'm mostly on at night myself. Once in a while I'm on like an hour or two during the day, but it's mostly at night anymore now that I'm on.

I have been sayin' forever that the internet has taken over my life. I don't have a life outside of it.

The internet has been my life for years, and I don't even do any of that social networking stuff. xP I don't have a real life unless you count the time I spend with my brother.

The internet hasn't really taken over my life... Rather track has done that since I don't come home till around 5:30 and tired, so theres nothing I want to do expect maybe go online or watch tv at that time 😛

I hasn't really 'taken over my life', but considering my closest friends live at least two suburbs away and I don't drive, it usually is the best way to keep in contact with them. (We do meet up for movies and such, but when we're low on money, it's not easy.) 😛

So like, I'd like to be off the computer, but to be honest, until I get my license (which won't happen until at least another year), I'm pretty much a loner.

Loner without the Internet. Whoda thunk it?
