I am developing a new [LINK REMOVED] for WordPress: ************. It is currently still in alpha development, but making very good progress for a one man team.

The mission:

  • To create a powerful forum solution for WordPress out of the box
  • Easy to theme/skin
  • Addon and hook support
  • No code knowledge required to make it do what you want it to do
  • More...

BBPress is well written but let's face it - it's far to basic compared to other forum software out there and it's time we have something better.

I will be needing testers so if you are interested please let me know.

Also any ideas, feature requests, etc post here - everything is open for discussion.

UPDATE:

I now have a [LINK REMOVED]. It currently doesn't have any real security in place and only basic validation but the forums officially work.

Next Steps:

  • Validation
  • Forum user levels
  • customisation/options

Hey!

Thats awesome. Tell me what you have in mind in regards to making this unique compared to other forum softwares currently available.
 
I don't plan on making it unique tbh. I'm trying to bring the power of modern forum software to WordPress so the user can have both the power of WordPress to manage their site and a seamlessly connected forums for their community.

However, I'm encouraging requests so please feel free to share your ideas. Also, this is only being advertised here and one other place.

His point was vague but not pointless. Naming affects how people perceive your product or service.

I'm not going to dive into suggesting names myself, as if this is going to be freely released, naming and popularity might not matter as much to you. But if you're looking for testers and suggestions, it'd be helpful to be nicer to those who comment even if you do feel their comment was an annoyance. 😀

The forum looks good so far. Do you plan on releasing a roadmap and/or a feature list?

His "point" was rude and unhelpful and frankly, borderline spam. As a moderator you should be discouraging this behaviour, not supporting it. I also noticed that you marked his post as "useful" so I'm guessing you are posting because you are friends? Please don't support childish behaviour or send in a moderator who can do their job...

I'm fully aware of how naming affects peoples perception, I was following in the footsteps of Android.

Asking someone to make a suggestion if they are going to criticise isn't not being nice.

Yes at some point. At the minute I want the initial release to be better than bbpress, once it's there I'll make an official release.

I didn't take his comment as a rude one, but I was concerned that he may be offended by you calling his post a "pointless post." So, I explained to you why naming may important and hoped to foster helpful discussion between you two. Furthermore, I marked his post as useful as it had a disagree on it, and I'm the type of person that will wants to see everyone feel included.

The other accusations are unnecessary and untrue. Again, if you understood his post as "rude," don't take it out on me.

That's a huge goal to have there. Let us know what you come up with.
