Introductions

I always try to introduce myself before even THINKING of posting else where. On my own forum, I do have an intro section where members can pop in and introduce themselves to the community before posting else where if they wish. I've registered on forums in the past where, once your account is validated, you're forced to make an intro before posting anywhere else on the forum. This always has irked me to no end.

Because what I said irks me, I have never, nor will I ever, make it so people HAVE to introduce themselves upon registering on my forum. I can see sites that do this being a major put-off in terms of members.

If there is a designated are for it, I'm likely to at least go there and say hi and give the basics.

Might not be the first thing I do however, I usually poke around a bit first, maybe answer to some topics I find interesting (there's been cases where I only introduced me after about a year), depends a bit on the forum when/if I post one.

I do have an introduction area for my forum, it is all up to the members to post there though. I have not posted an introduction on my own forum as of yet, initially it was tied with my personal domain where I had my blog as well though, and now it is also linked with a site where I have a little about myself posted.

I almost always leave an introduction even if I know I'm not going to stay active on that forum.
