Invasion Power Board - Thoughts?

Do you think it's the best? Why? Myself, I have mostly used XenForo and MyBB and have dabbled with phpBB and SMF. Anyway, sometimes I cannot see real differences among free and paid software - either between the two genres are among them.

Had this conversation many times before and each of of us will have options to what we rather use and like. Keep in mind it's paid software and so can't really compare it to other free software. Comes down to if you willing to pay up front then every six months of licence after that.

For me, is it the best? Yep and I love it 🙂 I wouldn't use anything else. The again you should know what I'm running lol

Dunno man. I even wanted to dabble with it myself but nope, went with InvisionFree instead.

So for the users out there, do you buy the cloud package or do a self-hosted thing? Do you think the self-hosted prices are better than the competition?

Well for everything (self-hosted), I mean all the fancy stuff included, it's $625 for everything with a $105 renewal every 6 months.

There cloud package isn't cheap and so self-hosted is the best way to go about. You pay for the software that you then keep.

I seem to recall they had cheaper cloud package options in the past for about $15-20 a month, shame those are gone

I would say IPB and Xenforo are the way to go for paid software.

Well first off... it's called Invision Power Board. It does what xenforo & vbulletin can do... at a higher price so I tend to stay away from it.

I'm using MyBB now, the design and looks can be change by using free and premium themes.
But the main difference is the features IPB and XenForo for me is already stable and nearly complete.

Paid forums has many great options and features that will surely help you in managing the forum
while free forums is limited and most of the features need to be done manually which leads to trial and error.
if you really wanted to keep up with the paid forums you need a great skills in coding or hire someone that can do the coding.

Invision is excellent and worth serious consideration, Xenforo is great but you need to think about your target audience.
