Invisible mode

When browsing forums, do you use Invisible Mode? It may be called other things. It’s where you are not in the Who’s Online log. I don’t browse Private. I figure it helps the forum look more active if they see when members are online & how many there are.
If you do use it, what would be the purpose? Since on Proboards, Staff can still see the people.
Do you prohibit it on your own forum? If so, why?

I don't hide my online activity on my board. The only exception is my other "Bot" account that posts announcements and important threads, since I try to keep my personal account separate from the "official" admin account.

There's no need for me to show the activity for that account since it's only used to make updates

I forgot that feature even exists. Used to be more popular back in the day, now nobody seems to care.

I never go invisible on my forum, nor any other forum. There was one time I did browse a Sonic forum in invisible mode just because I didn't want to be contacted via private message from members. (I was super anxious at the time and just didn't want to talk to anyone. :V) This was about 7 or 8 years ago.

not really ever been invisable on forums on either owned or visiting, never actually thought about it as i manage to keep on top of conversations, tasks and job i had to do etc 🙂

I don't use invisible mode, I have never felt any necessity of using invisible mode. When I am visiting a forum I would like to be seen by the other members that I am online. It gives the forum a little boost that members are online.

IPB used to have a option back some years ago to be invisible and not anymore

If the admin allows me to be invisible, I do it for privacy reasons. Only staff can see me online. On my own forum, I dont post as invisible, or at keast I haven't had any desire to.

Not anymore....but when I was an Admin on a really huge forum I would use it and the reason was because there was a sub-forum that was very active and cliquish. If they saw others even looking at their forum they went bezerk! And when they saw staff in there they were even more irate because they thought we were out to get them. Being invisible allowed me to review content from reports without them knowing about it.

I have never seen a reason myself to use the invisible mode on a forum. If I will be posting on the forum anyway it's clear that I am active and online so I don't see any reason to hide my online status. It's only the members who can't see you online, the staff still can but if you are active anyway, it made no sense to me.

I usually do on my forums if I'm busy on it and don't want to be annoyed. I'm not sure if I'm still hidden or showing online on here though. lol

Nope, I never do, people can see me online whenever they feel like it. I understand why some do, but for me I'm ok with people seeing my online status. Ironic for someone with social anxiety issues, lol

Bit different for you though as you're always online so people know that you're always available 95% of the time 😛

I don't see the point of it if you're posting around the forum anyway, people will know you're online because of that.

The only time I ever used it is when I needed to check on something using my mobile device. Didn't want people to see me on the active user list and wonder why I'm not replying to their topics.
