Invisionfree to Zetaboards Conversion

Alright. I have a few questions about converting my forum from Invisionfree to Zetaboards. I want to do this because I know invisionfree has a bad reputation and isn't updated frequently (to my knowledge).

What would be the benefits of switching?

What would be the main changes?

I know I wouldnt lose my forums but would I lose my cuztomized forum layout and smilies and html and things of that nature?

Would I have to redo settings and such?

Well the main changes are these

1. Security zetaboards has alot better security.

2. Themes when zetaboards first came out themes sucked,but now themes are getting alot better and well... I like them 🙂.

3. You get alot more bbcodes by default and a flash bbcode by default which is very nice.

4. and updates are I think biweekly.

As to redo settings and such I didn't have to change anything. I just had to get a new skin and a new arcade which wasn't hard.

The only annoying part is how long the conversation takes...
 
You wouldn't lose your forums but you may lose the past few members that have registered over the forty eight hours or so.

You probably will have to re-do all settings.

If you switched you could have stronger security and a stronger registration form thing like people making several account on b0tz could stop with the security questions unlike IF.

Not to be rude,but you are incorrect on everything you just said except the security.

He will not lose members nor will he will he have to redo settings I know from experience btw..
 
Well when i was converting a test forum what had 3 members that just registered were all deleted. Miund you that was IF to PHPBB but the same thing would.should happen.

That explains why you said those things now..

However the way you change over to zetaboards is a bit different and not as complex.

It is all about time so you get to KEEP everything you did.

This includes topics,settings,members,etc...

Only things you lose is your invisionfree skin and any invisionfree mods.
 
Alright. That sounds good.... I'm just worried that I'm gonna lose something important.

I have another question though.

If we opt to convert, will we have to stop the site entirely and keep people from posting? The other admin made the comment that it might not convert what we do after having opted to convert.

Ya' know what I mean?
 
Hi Presty Willow.

What the other Admin said is somewhat correct, once you have opted for the backup and the physical backup is made...any posts that have been made, any users registered or any of the user's settings that have been edited will all be gone.

Once the board is converted you will only see what was there at the point the backup was actually taken. In most cases you'll only lose a few hour's worth of activity.

Well that entirely depends on how the update takes place, is it automatic or do you have to request it?

If you don't host the forum yourself (which evidently you don't) then 90% of the time you won't know when the backup has been taken. Either way, you'll only lose a few hours activity...if that ~wink~
 
I wouldn't tell them to stop... I would just say that some posts may be lost so if you make any important posts make sure you back them up and so on.

Yes when the conversation is done it will change to s1(or swhatevernumber).zetaboards.com/yourboard
