I have been noticing a lot of websites and forums pop up using the .io domain name. I suppose it must be the new hip and cool domain name on the block. 😛

Do you like the .io extension? Would you use it for a project of yours?

Depending on where you buy, .io domains cost $30 to $60 for registration and .com's are usually around $10. Is it worth the price?

I only use .com/.net/.org/.co.uk extensions for projects and mainly use .com. I don't think it is worth it as you can get a better extension for cheaper, ie, .com domain. The only reason why you might use the .io domain is to aim your website at the specific country as it is a country code top-level domain.

That domain type sounds way too much like something particularly intended for mobile users. I'll stick to the main three.

Ive always used the main three, I wouldnt even use .uk or .co.uk

.io seems suited for games like Agar.io or Slither.io

These are pretty interesting, actually. I really think that they add a defined personality to site. However, It may not be all that worth it when you can get a -.com domain for a way cheaper price.

i usually use .com, .net

I don't have a problem with using them for side projects or for things I end up wanting to sell. However, for new start-ups I always 100% must get a .com and surrounding domains.

They look unique and depending on the genre, yeah, I'd use them 🙂

I'm not a fan of the .io domain myself and wouldn't use it, but it doesn't matter to me what other people use.

I have never heard of it and I don't care because it isn't my choice of what other people use it for. I only use TLD's for mine, but if someone uses an .io domain, I couldn't give a damn.

Seen domains ends like that 🙂 but rather have .com or .net and whatnot as it's more professional look. You guys have to consider that in the world wide web that you can have anything you want.

LOL at that .lol
Anyway, I'm only starting my first website so I'm not even considering other domains. I'll stick to .com for now. I have come across a .io website before though. Just the one.

.io domains would only be considered by me if I was running a technology-related website for the latest in standards because IO can mean, in computing, Input-Output, hence why it is so popular nowadays.

I haven't used .io personally, but I have noticed that it is increasing in popularity quite rapidly. I noticed .co is getting used quite a bit recently as well.

People are paying a lot for .io, for sure. Also, I do think it looks good for some tech website.

maybe .io is cheaper option for some?
