I need to assign a specific IP to my PC. How do I do this?

I put an ip and my internet didn't work right. It said I was connected but I had no internet access. What do I do?

It doesn't work that way. You can't just make up numbers and assign it as your ip.. i don't get what you mean?

Like what would I set as my IP. Mine is automatically set like assign automatically option. I just need to assign a specific one because it doesn't say what my computers ip is

Ohhh I think you have to find a way to turn off the dynamic IP option. I forget how but you can find on google, use those terms "dynamic IP"

ipconfig

To find out your external IP, go to http://whatismyip.com

You can't do that.

The only way to get an IP that does not change is to contact your Internet Service Provider.

You can't do that.

I had to for some reason and I was walked through how to do it.

You can change your private IP address, but the public IP, it depends what type of internet access and if your ISP allows it on the routers/network.

You are wanting a static ip address. Most of the time you need to call your ISP for that.

However if you are one of the lucky few who don't need to do that,here is a guide -

Note that it is geared toward xp.
