IPB 3.2 is much much better than the chunky, bloated vbulletin IMO. It has like's, status's, alerts etc; whereas vbulletin has an amazing amount of bloat and security flaws popping up every day or two.
vBulletin is ugly, IPB is smooth talking.
I have used vBulletin once and never again will I use such a crappy forum software, I would rather power my communities using a forum software that is going somewhere not round in circles like vB.
The ACP looks a little complicated and messy-ish. But the software overall looks powerful, and there are so many excellent themes to get while IPB doesn't seem to have nearly as many.

-- 07 Sep 2011, 07:57 --

And shady..vB doesn't have status's? And what do you mean by alerts?
I'm confused on what differences that are crucial, that vB doesn't have and IPB does. vB just looks extremely powerful. And what sort of errors?
Nope vB has profile comments but not status updates.
The errors I used to get were random database errors making us lose lots of posts, vB is slow and heavy on the server, support on the forum is really crap, the Acp is confusing and the development of the forum software does not seem to be moving in a positive direction at all.
My forum (AF) started on vBulletin 4.0 and it was not a good experience at all, I chose to move to xenForo in February because the software was IMHO faster, smarter and more engaging than vBulletin. Not to mention we lost a good 5k or more posts in our early days due to vBulletin's totally random database errors which has not happened since the switch.
Scout around and read other peoples unhappy stories using vBulletin, that way you can see what you are buying into before you take the plunge.
IPB does seem to be moving in the right direction, 3.2 looks and feels awesome like it should for the price.
If you decide to go with vB I would suggest you use 3.8 and not vb4. It is more stable IMO.
Thanks ShadyX. I agree with you mostly. vB looks like a complex ACP and not really going far and I see the IPB's new interface and everything looks pretty great. +rep.
