Simple, use MyBB/phpBB3 and use that $140-$190 you would have invested into the forum software, instead, invest that back into the forum. $140-$190 is enough to get a forum off and successful

How would you invest that back into the forum to make it successful? Paid advertising?

There are many ways, a simple posting contest that cost me $40 got me 7k posts in 3 days. I have my ways, which I've posted articles on.

Posting competitions don't equal success. Its just people mindlessly posting for the sake of posting. Once they got the money or lost, they're gone. 😛

7k quality posts seem like a successful competition for me. These members stayed after as well. 🙂
