Hello Everybody,

I am here to ask you a question. I want to start a new website soon on a paid software and I am stuck between 2 softwares. I was looking for some help really 🙂

Which do you think I should go with?

InvisionPower (IPB) or XenForo?

Regards,
James

It really depends on what you're going for. I like them both, but I like one for certain genres and the other for other genres. As for management, IPB is simpler imo, but both are easy to learn.

Well, I am looking to go for a SEO or Admin sort of niche to it really.

This. Don't use XenForo. It may be cheaper, but that's all it has going for it.

Any reasons you feel that IPB is better. Other then price?

Because you can understand the ACP, things are better organised and named, and above all else, it wasn't created out of spite.

Thanks for the opinions everybody!
The only negative I hate about IPB is that you have to renew it every 6 months.

Yes that is the only thing that sucks about IPB, so annoying. IPB is by miles better than Xenforo though. Screw the hype over Xenforo.

But it's only $25 to renew...

Which I understand, but I have to make sure that I can make that much money in 6 months.

Xenforo looks better on admin boards imo.

I haven't used XF enough to say much about it, unfortunately. That said I'm biased towards IPB. I never take a look inside as an administrator, but as a moderator and more importantly as a member, I like IPB. It has many options and features but not complicated to understand. And the layout is pretty and clean. The renewing fee is something else, so it's up to the owner about which one to choose, haha.

Depends on what you need on your site.

A board with no add ons? Go XenForo.

A more general community site with more than just a forum (like a gallery or blogs)? Go IPB.

I used to have an IPB license and its a good software. I don't have any experience with administrating XenForo boards but I personally prefer IPB from a regular member's standpoint. It's modern but still has that classic forum feel to it.

It seems IBP will be fit for your expand forum while Xenforo just like a new board here. However I believe Xenforo will have a good SEO way more than, right?

You don't have to renew it every 6 months, this is only if you want to keep up with the latest upgrades and support. Sometimes I leave it for a few months or so to renew. If you do have a break between renewals, the Spam Monitor won't work.

IPB 4 is due out sometime in the next few months, lots of changes and improvements, something to look forward to. 🙂

I love IPB and look better than XenForo ( in my opinion ) , I don't like the ACP only.

I wouldn't waste the money on either to be honest. I thought xenforo was a waste of money.

Howdy Allan 😀

As for the topic's subject... I like xenForo but its still an infant forum software. I just recently migrated to IPB from SMF and I am not even regretting it a little bit 🙂

I've fallen in love with IP!
