I've been looking through the various similarities and differences and reading topics in the VB and IPB forums at Admin Zone I have came to a conclusion finally.

I truly and whole heartedly believe that IPB is better (though granted newer on the market) than vBulletin.

There are many different reasons..

But I would like to hear what others have to say before I voice my opinion any more.

Cost - vBulletin keeps raising their prices, Invision Power keeps them leveled.

Profiles/Social Aspecs - IPB had the first socail implementation upon their version 2.0 profiles, vBulletin then copied IPB.

Design & Look - While some vBulletin skins are extremely good looking, Invision Power Board is just more 'professional'.

Immature Administrators - Most vBulletin Admins are kids, hot headed immature little punks that troll anyone who says their fantastic platform is crap.

Admin ACP - The Admin CP within vBulletin is the standard 'on-the-left' style while IPB's is a acomplete looking application that is much easier to use, showing the user more information.

Just some reasons...

Someone sounds biased.. hehe.. No worries as I am as well.. -surprise-

Well, my views is, besides the fact that IPB 3.x will be starting to roll out sometime between late spring and early summer, like you said, IPB strive for connecting people inside the forum.. That is something that other forum software lacks a bit on.
I have noticed that freeforums.org is expanding their profile system to mimic IPB's. This is a very great idea of them because if you can get people more involved with each other, the community grows an amazing amount quicker.

I will have to say that vB has a ton more mods and styles out right now. But even so, IPB doesn't need to much help.

They have all the basic needs and have a ton of stuff to go along with it.

And with 3.x having a built in rep system, I believe they are one of the first to have one like that. (I believe mybb has one.. I have no clue.. I have a distaste for that software)

I have also always enjoyed IPB more than vB. My thoughts are vB is more 'stuffed' with useless tools, that don't work as good as they should. Were IPB installs with a basic setup, it has a near perfect version of any MOD you will ever need. vB comes overpacked with alot of features you will never use, leaving the MODs glitchy.

I am also biased towards IPB, as I grew up with InvisionFree, the only free forum host I still tell people about (Zeta has gone too vB for my taste)

I prefer IPB over vB. It's admin panel looks much nicer in my honest opinion, plus IPB3 is coming out soon and the beta of it is great. ~smile~

I will have to say though.. vB 4.x series is supposed to be nicer..

It will have to be to beat IPB 3

I like PHPBB over both so I can't really say anything lol...

However I have found IPB admin cp's to be easier to use.

phpbb over both?

Hmm..

On some areas phpbb is definitely a leader at in the forum software community. But compared to either of these giants, phpbb is a David.. ~eeeek~

If they make it nicer, will they be raising their prices again then? ~lol~ IPB has gotten loads more users sinc ethey last raised their prices, greedy companies.

I prefer vB over IPB any day. Just looks much better, the admin panel is very easy to use, and there's just so much things you can do with it.

I believe that vb is a little more expensive and you have to pay $30 a year forever to get software upgrades. Sounds like a rip off to me.

vB offers 2 licenses (one leased)
https://www.vbulletin.com/order/

One being $100, with limit use, and the other at $180 - at $60 or $100 for renewal.

IPB offers two (both owned in this case)
http://www.invisionpower.com/community/ ... chase.html

One is $150 and the other being $300 - at $25 and $50 every six months for upgrades

While Ghost pointing that out, IPB is way worht the money in a clear comparison. Actually, just looking at both sites and if I knew nothing of the software on each platform, I'd go with IPB as their site looks more professional. However, vB does have an amazing reputation feature, the new IPB 3.0 reputation feature is relatively weak in comparison.

I'm also excited about IPB3 having PCs instead of PMs. (Personal Conversations) I find it better to have private stuff in a thread-like view. It's much easier to read. Yet another reason for IPB.

I also find IPB to look more professional, but I will say vBulletin does have some nice skins out there.

Hey don't get me wrong ... give me a free IPB or VB board I will use it 🙂.

lol. I just switched from phpbb3 to IPB and I am enjoying it..

I do wish they had more free mods.. phpbb3 had blog mod and photo gallery mod free.. Though they are not as well made I have to admin.

There was a free blog modification, but I think it just died. I have purchased both Blog & Gallery and they are so well built, I suppose you'd expect that at the price + its made in-house -🙂-

Ipb is what I started with. The 1.3 version before it was the free version. Then I went to vB and I have loved it ever since. I do enjoy ipb though, and if I ever have to buy another forum software I will probably go with ipb just because the admin is easier for me to use.

I guess at this point I am neutral on either.

I've never owned a license for either, but I've always preferred the layout of IPB over vB. It's just nicer, sleeker and easier to get used to for those coming off of Invisionfree (IPB 1.3). I don't like IPB3 though.
