IPB vs vBullentin

These are the top two paid forum softwares, but in the end, which do you prefer and WHY?

IPB because of the tremendous support, the easy to use ACP, and the load of features that come with it.

I've used both softwares as an admin. I used IPB when it was my own site and vB when I was a co-admin along with 3 others (there was no boss, it was a joint op). vB support is terrible compared to IPB. IPB has a phone number you can call, and even on weekends they answer the support tickets within a matter of MINUTES.

But what about license wise? Is the renewal date that shows in IPB only for the support or is it for the license? I mean, if you don't renew it, can you still use your IPB board or no?

You can still use IPB if your license expires at the 6 month mark. Than you can optionally renew for support and other services.

I've never used one on the management side but I like vBulletin as a user.

For vBulletin, is it the same deal? Your forum will stay up even if the license expires?

Yeah. You can still use it. I highly suggest opting for support though. There are things google can't tell you how to do.

I like them both. I'd run a forum off both if I had the time and money.

Do you think that by buying one of the softwres, it'll effect who registers?

Because most "Big Boards" run on vB. I barely see any on IPB, unless someone can prove me wrong.

I prefer ipb from both the user and admin end. Its easy to use,looks great,and their support is amazing.

You could buy a forum software that has a reputation of having HUGE forums but if your forum sucks, you wont get many members.

Fkn0wned.com uses IPB.
It's slower IMO, and the skins are generally MASSIVE.

Using vB as an admin now, its gorgeous and the MODs you get for it are just as good as any other Paid Software.

Used IPB about 3 months ago (my forum), i actually swapped down to phpBB, then up to vB.

Kinda depressing, i love changing things all the time so i spend money on stuff i've never tested before, then end up hating it. (;
