Hey,
I am buying an iPod tomorrow, I am getting the
Apple® - iPod touch® 8GB* MP3 Player (4th Generation - Latest Model) - Black (copy paste :lol🙂
Some questions are:
Do I need to pay extra for web browsing? Like how does that work..
Can you get apps on it? And how?
What is a dock connector to USB cable?

It's got a Wifi receiver, so as long as you're within range of a router with an open connection you will be able to connect to the Internet for free.

You can download apps directly from the iTouch or on iTunes.

The dock connector is just the connector that hooks up your iTouch to your computer.

there is a shit load of apps that are free, and if you know the right apps can snag the paid ones for free too, since lots of devs have promotions.
 
The itouch comes with a little guide that teaches you everything you need to know. Except a few things, that I had to figure out. You can look up itouch tricks, and theres some pretty cool things you will find.
 
May I give my personal thoughts? 🙂
Depending on what kind of user you are, you might not like Apple's OS and its limits on what you can or can't do with your iPod/iPhone... if you want freedom to do whatever you want with the device you paid for, and/or if you mind paying for apps when you can get for free (what aragom said), you shouldn't go for Apple. I really think their more recent devices have a lot of power (fast processors, etc.), but it is not fully used with the eye-candy iOS. Yes, it can be eye-candy, but most tech-savvy people say it is less powerful than the other mobile operating systems out there.

There's also the price question... check what you really need, a nice Apple on the back of the device or real functionality. There are many devices that do more than iPod Touch and cost less... you choose.

All I can wish is a good shopping session and I hope you like your new gadget... with a shiny Apple on the back 🙂 ... If some time later you decide you don't like it, either install Android on it if possible at the time, or send it to me for free and I'll be happy during 2011 and 2012... lol

Well this is probably the first Apple thing I will use for a while. I have a BlackBerry phone (I hate it), and a Sansa MP3. I am getting the iPod because of the space and abilities.
 
Tell me when you get tired of using iTunes to sync with the iPod, specially if you're on rWindows. If you are using Mac OS this shouldn't be a hassle at all, but if you're using Linux, some problems might come on the way (however, I think Rythmbox which comes by default on Ubuntu works well with these Apple gadgets).

I have an old 2nd Generation iPod Nano which I didn't use because of the hassle of using iTunes, then I discovered Rockbox.org and I'm so happy on having it on the iPod... unfortunately, no, doesn't work on most recent iDevices yet.

I got my iPod today and the music synched just perfect with Windows Media Player :S
 
Well, it seems Microsoft is making progresses... now Windows Media Player also syncs iDevices? Wow!
I wonder who came first... Rythmbox or WMP...
- Microsoft will always say it was WMP
- The Linux Community will always say it was Rythmbox
- iDevice owners will say "Great! Now my iDevice syncs everywhere"
- Everyone else won't have anything to say as they don't own an iDevice

I don't use WMP in more than a year, nor Windows since September, so I don't really know what are the news in terms of that closed-source platform... 🙂

But, let me know, the official instructions for initializing the iPod said you needed to install iTunes, right?

Yeah, of course it does. Just like with my Sansa player, it needed to be installed with the Sansa disc to make it usable. Pretty much how most of these things work.

Do I need to pay extra for web browsing? ~ Not 3G so you can't use it anywhere, only when your near a router / wi-fi

Can you get apps on it? ~ App store, Ipod Or Itunes

You will also need to download iTunes 10.1 to manage your iPod and get it started.
